I sure miss this gentle giant. I looked to him for his calming advice and guidance. I find myself still looking. Now more than ever. He was my mentor and friend for 5 years. It is the shortest 5 years I've had with anyone, and the longest year without him.

It's been a year. On one hand it seems like just this early morning I received a call from the hospital. You were on your way to hospice but decided it was time to go.

On the other, "time can move as such a pace." For sure, some days are more difficult than others. Then again, I feel like I'm in a good place of celebrating your life rather than mourning your passing. You lived much more than you died. Knowing you are in a better place and happy makes all the difference.

Thank you for watching over me as you always have. Until we meet again, you did well, sweet George. Now fly high; fly high.

Love always, Donna

I'm so sorry to hear of George's illness and passing. I worked closely with George while I was at TxDOT as we worked to develop policies that would ensure accessibility in the sidewalk and street environment. He was great to work with, always willing to listen and to discuss the issues. A kind and gentle soul, working to improve the lives of the people of Texas. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family as you grieve. May your precious memories bring you comfort in the days ahead.

My sweet George, You have been and forever will be my heart, light, and joy. Thank you for sharing your wonderful life and gift of adventure, everything I ever wanted. You gave me the moon. Now, dance among the stars. Happy 25th Anniversary

I didn't know George in the flesh, but I knew him 'in person' from the wonderful way that Donna spoke of him. He wanted to make the world a better place, and there's always a shortage of those kind of people.

Dave and I are so sorry to hear about George's passing! Dave worked with George at Friends of the Parks in Lakeway and thought he was such a generous and good man! His love and respect of animals always resonated with Dave and me! We will miss him but are very sure he will live in eternity with the Lord! May God bless his soul as well as his family and friends!

Rest well my friend. I will miss our yearly conversations that go back to 1992 when we both worked at TDLR and continued throughout the years. I will certainly miss trading enforcement stories with you (TBPE and TDLR) at our yearly RAS training in Round Rock, Texas. I will certainly miss asking you about, "my Barracuda" in your garage. Thank you for all that you did for the ICP and RAS program, but more importantly, thanks for being a great friend throughout all of these years. You will be missed, your friend, Rick Valdes.

A beautiful and fitting tribute to George. He did indeed have a wonderful life. I was very sad to hear the news of his passing. I only knew George professionally through TDLR since about 2006 and at every encounter he was kind and helpful. I was lucky to have recently seen him in Houston in February 2017 at the Building Professionals Institute Conference and at APA Annual conferences. Our deepest condolences to his wife Donna and their beloved family and friends. May God comfort you today and the days ahead and comfort you with cherished memories of George. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

George and I worked together (on purpose) on many projects with Friends of the Parks in Lakeway. We enjoyed each other's company and traded stories about state employment and other life events. Blazing new trails was a particularly rewarding accomplishment we enjoyed. He was a hard worker, never complained, and shared with me his fondness for wildlife and nature. At one occasion he noticed a large boulder next to a pond on the trail we were clearing. He convinced me to help building a little loop access to the rock because he said this would be an ideal spot for people to sit, meditate and observe life around the pond.
I will forever notice this rock and sit there when I can. It will be called George's Rock. Have sweet peace, my friend.

A mental snapshot of George, fifteen years ago now. I was leaving my job interview with TDLR, and a tall man with a ponytail strode past me, left the building, and crossed the street. I suddenly had a good feeling about working for an agency that would hire old hippies. That man with the ponytail became my Director for the last ten years; we were the same age.

Many will say that George was a fair-minded, kind, and patient man. And I stand witness to that. Many knew and relied on his intelligence, professionalism, and great sense of humor. And that too is true. But if you knew George, there was something else.

There was something invisible - yet vital and tangible. George seemed surrounded by a vast, clear pool of genuine happiness happiness for each encounter he had with you, his personal musical notes to life itself, a kind of emanating peace, which flowed as he walked his path every day, and touched everyone he encountered.

Well, I miss you George.
We all miss you, very much.
We were lucky to have you as such a great boss.
Hope somehow you can keep sending
That clear pool of happiness flowing our way.

I can not imagine a better obituary. I've known George for over 20 years now and adored him from the day we met. He was an amazingly kind and loving person. He did, indeed, leave this place better than he found it.

George was a dear friend of mine for forty two years and it's hard to believe he is no longer with us. He was as good a man as a man could hope to be and his passing leaves a void in my life will that not be filled. He was very fair minded and was not a judgemental person which is increasingly rare. I have many great memories of him and how we could get each other laughing at something ridiculous especially if it had anything to do with Monty Python or Blazing Saddles. Our mutual affection for Dodge and Plymouth muscle cars was something that remained constant during our friendship. His passing draws tighter my circle of friends that are loved and we all mourn his loss. His smile and handshake will not be replaced. RIP my friend.
