George Finn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 23, 2025.
George Raphael Finn Jr., of Scituate, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, surrounded by his family.

George was the son of the late George R. Finn and Marie (Mahoney) Finn and is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Anne (O'Toole) Finn. He was the beloved father of George "Geordy" Finn (Julie) of Marshfield, Kate Molson (Geoff) of Montreal, Maggie Kessler (Josh) of Milton and Laura Sullivan (Tom) of Cohasset. He was the cherished grandfather of Thomas, Elizabeth, and Andrew Finn; Henry, William, Tom and Maggie Molson; Sam, Caroline and Ellie Kessler; Samantha, Tommy and Riley Sullivan; and brother of William Finn, Peter Finn, Barbara Guarnieri and the late Virginia Nottebart.

George was born on May 6, 1941 in Boston and grew up on Lantern Lane in Milton. In his youth, George served as an altar boy at St. Elizabeth's Parish and was a regular at the Milton Library. He graduated from Boston College High School (1959), Harvard University (1963), and New England School of Law (1967). A talented athlete, George played hockey and baseball for the town of Milton, B.C. High and Harvard. Some of his fondest memories were made at the rink and on the baseball diamond.

George met the love of his life, Anne, on a blind date in 1964 at the Harvard-Yale football game. Much to his great fortune, Anne agreed to another date and developed a love for all things Crimson, continuing the Harvard-Yale game tradition for years to come. They married in 1967 and moved to Scituate, a place George had spent idyllic summers growing up. George and Anne later settled in Marshfield, where they raised their family and lived for 50 years. George was an active member of St. Christine's Parish and a coach for Marshfield Little League and Marshfield Youth Hockey. He and Anne moved back to Scituate in 2020.

George began his career in investment sales and ultimately worked as a financial planner for over 30 years. He retired from Coastal Equities in 2019.

George was a Friend of Bill for close to 40 years, helping countless others reclaim and rebuild their lives. A deeply religious man, George was a devoted supporter of Glastonbury Abbey, serving for numerous years as the Abbey's volunteer shuttle driver. Since 1973, he was a dedicated and valued member of the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club, serving on the Council for many years and as the Commodore in 1994. Countless happy summers were spent with friends and family on the courts, around the pool and on the dance floor.

The role he cherished most was that of dad to his four children and grandfather to his thirteen grandchildren, becoming affectionately known as "Gramps." He was a frequent spectator at hockey, lacrosse, baseball, soccer, tennis and even a few dance recitals. From birthday parties to First Communions to weddings, Gramps was there for the cake and ice cream. He was truly happiest at the dinner table with a grandchild or two on his lap, sharing funny stories and finishing the night with a large slice of ice cream cake from Nona's.

A loyal friend and confidant to many, George was always quick with a joke and never failed to bring a smile. He was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed.

He will also be dearly missed by his beloved calico cat, Maisie - overweight, a bit temperamental, but deeply adored.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Monday, September 29, at St. Mary of the Nativity Church (1 Kent St, Scituate, MA 02066). A visitation for friends and family is planned for Sunday, September 28 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home (382 First Parish Rd, Scituate, MA 02066).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to Notre Dame Academy (1073 Main St, Hingham, MA 02043) or Boston College High School (150 Morrissey Blvd, Boston, MA 02125)
