George and I became friends during graduate school days in New York long ago. He was an usher when Marilyn and I were married in 1962 and our friendship was renewed when he and Lois arrived in Canada in the early 1970s, staying in our house in Toronto. I visited George and Lois in both Edmonton and Vancouver and we remained in touch during the subsequent years. I recall Lois staying with us a few times on her way to medical conferences. We have only learned today of George's sudden demise a week ago and extend our condolences to Tim, Therese and Jane. I am grateful for many happy memories.

Marilyn and I have just learned of George's passing and wish to extend our condolences to his family. George and I became friends many years ago in New York at Union Seminary. He was an usher at our wedding in 1962 and we remained friends with George and Lois for many years, especially after their arrival in Canada. I visited him both in Edmonton and Vancouver a number of times, and Lois stopped in our house in Toronto more than once of her way to medical conferences. We fell out of touch after Lois died, but I remain grateful for George's friendship and old memories and tried unsuccessfully to contact him not long ago. We wish Therese, Jane and Tim the best.

George will be greatly missed by the Centre for Feminist Legal studies at UBC. He was one of our most faithful participants and supporters, attending most of our weekly lectures and other events. He audited my course on Women, Law and Social Change as well as a seminar in constitutional law with my colleague Robin Elliot and had a genuine thirst for knowledge. He wanted to see law used for social justice. My partner Claire Young and I will be making a donation to the Centre for Feminist Legal Studies in memory of George, a very fine man.

George will be greatly missed. He was one of the most dynamic men I've ever met contributing to social causes and continuing in studies both academic and personal. A life truly lived.

George was an active and loyal member of Justice Group at Christ Church Cathedral, helping to support individuals in their quest to find a job or get documentation to stay in Canada. George became very sociable in his last years, joining a variety of friends going out for Sunday lunch in downtown Vancouver's vibrant restaurant district. He always had interesting stories to share yet listened well and asked good questions as well. I shall miss him greatly!
