I did not know that your father had passed away until today when Leigh Hilbert told me so. I had been in contact with you father to thank him for everything he had done for my family and me. He had been particularly helpful to my mother when she was going through a difficult time. Much love to all of you. He was a bright light and he is much missed.

40 years ago today George Gilbert performed my wedding to Richard Franklin in the church there in Dothan. George was the most dynamic and caring minister I have known. We moved away shortly after due to work demands. As today is our anniversary I was thinking of George. Online I discovered his obituary. Heaven is rejoicing! George is home! You will be missed here however.

George Gilbert was a great encourager to me at a very special time when I entered the ordained ministry in 1967. Someone much wiser than I once said, "When you look back over your life, you will discover that those individuals who have meant the most to you were not those who offered you the greatest advice or solutions to all of your problems, but rather, those who reached out and touched your life at a very special moment with a kind and caring hand." I give thanks to God that George Gilbert was that kind of person in my life!

George and I were long time buddies growing up in Columbia, I know you will miss him, but you will have so many wonderful memories. I will be thinking of you tomorrow during the celebration of his life. I wish I could be there. God Bless you.
