George Gordon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 14, 2023.
George Gordon passed away unexpectedly on July 6, 2023, he was 83 years old.

George grew up in Whittier California with his brother, Willie and sister Francis. After graduating from high school, he joined the army where he was stationed overseas in Germany.

After leaving the service he returned to Los Angeles. He later married his first wife and relocated to Northern California, had two children and where he started a prosperous life. He settled in Mill Valley California where he raised his family.

After pursuing various vocations, he enrolled, attended and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in economics. He ultimately started his own financial consulting business, Western Annuity Services. He continued to work at Western Annuity up until the time of his death this month. George's partner continues to run the business.

His friends and associates often appreciated his intellect and perspective on all subjects that he mastered. His friends said George had an indelible presence, and you were unlikely to forget ever meeting him. George was always there for his family and his friends, always willing to lend a hand or be there to help in times of need. He was a shoulder to lean on, a person to talk to about your concerns or worries, and always would listen to what you had to say. He will be missed dearly.

In his public life he officially ran for mayor of Mill Valley on multiple occasions, but never was able to secure a win. That didn't stop George from trying to make meaningful change within his community, he genuinely was concerned about making the town he lived in a better place, his friends referred to him as the unofficial mayor of Mill Valley. To his immediate community surrounding his home, he was a larger-than-life figure who was considered the captain of the block.

Charles Darwin said, "a man's friendships are one of the best measures of their worth". George passed away as one of the wealthiest men in the world.

George is survived by his second wife Yin Ju Yang and his two children, Brooks Gordon and Denise El Chaar and his six grandchildren. George will be laid to rest at Fernwood Cemetery next to his sister, Francis and mother Ann, overlooking Tam Valley

A celebration of life is planned for July 22nd at D'Angelo's in downtown Mill Valley. For more information on services, please send an email to

Just found out today about George´s passing and have to say that I´m very sad. My husband and I lived in his downstairs apartment for five years and we were friends. He always made us feel as if it was just as much our home as it was his and Yin´s. I always enjoyed our conversations and hanging out with Max, his beloved dog. Didn´t get to see him again after we moved but I´m grateful that we at least had a phone convo earlier this year. I can still hear his voice. His memory will live in my heart.

Here´s some pics of his beautiful backyard, it was sooo peaceful. He called it his extra room.

I met George in early 1980 when I was working for a non-profit organization. I had no pension plan until I met George and WASI. Signed up immediately. George would call me often to adjust my investment strategy. George really took care me! I'll always remember that.
He cared about me and my financial future.

I've known George for 35 years. His wisdom and humor always cheered me. He is gone a way too soon. I'll miss him and remember him always.

I am sorry to learn of George's passing. He was a friend of mine, Mimi Farina and the Bread & Roses organization. He helped set up our retirement plans decades ago and we remain grateful to this day. We will miss him, his easy smile and his great laugh.

George was always ready for a glass of wine . We enjoyed many while our dogs played.
Smile and rye humor will be missed.

As his former sister-in-law, I will always remember George as a down-to-earth, very wry fellow who had a unique outlook on life and a great way with his kids, and mine. One of my favorite guys, ever.
