George Thomas Halsey Jr.

I am just now seeing this and I am proud to say my parent's were part of George and Ruth Halsey's Amway downline. I believe I was 12 years old when my parents joined Amway. I followed all the principals and was marveled at what George and Ruth stood for during that time. I read books; As A Man Thinketh, and See You At the Top to name a few. I recall traveling from Los Angeles to Greensboro in a motorhome for one of Amway's prestigious Awards Night (I think '82/'83) were memories I will never forget. We even had the pleasure of hosting a breakfast for him at our house. That was the summer of 1985. I was 18 years old at the time, I am now 53. My own father passed January 7th of this year, while looking for photos to put in the obituary, I came across the photo of George sitting in our dining room table and was honored to have taken a photo with him with my then boyfriend. He was honored to be a part of the photo as he saw how excited we all were yet he knew nothing of his history. Ruth, although 11 years later, my prayers to you and the family.

Rest in peace George, it was a pleasure to have met you.

Bonnie and I were blessed to see George and Ruth on several occasions. The first time was in Indianapolis in January 1995 at the Hoosier Dome. We had heard several of their tapes including This is Diamond. George was always an inspiration. Yesterday in Nashville at Opryland, we saw Ruth speak and were greatly inspired. That is when we heard confirmation of the rumors of George's death. Ruth is a great, courageous woman and we were blessed yesterday by having the opportunity to see her. Mrs. Halsey, George will be deeply missed. I will always remember his talking about being on a cruise, I think it was in Ireland and people thinking he was the King of Nairobi and also when he visited Jay Van Andel's tropical flower garden, "in Michigan, the coldest place on the face of the earth." His humor and his uplifting spirit will always be with us and we are grateful for having the opportunity to learn from the two of you.

On an invitation from Mason Weaver Ty and I drove from New Jersey to North Carolina to meet George and Ruth. It was an experience that will forever be embedded in my heart. After very warm tight, loving hugs from George, Ruth and Karen we sat and listened to them share more than just their story, they shared their life with us.

My wife and I hosted you and George when you spoke for Diamond Quest in Philadelphia in 1994. When we picked you up at the airport you said we were the first black couple to ever host you.
That weekend is forever one of the highlites of my life because of what the two of you will always mean to me.

I just learned of the passing of Mr. Halsey. I first learned of him by listening to his tapes when I first joined the business in 1993. His love and passion for life really came through in his tapes. Hi Ruth and family, my name is loren stidham and i met you both in dallas tx at the glass family reuion, it was like nothing i had ever seen, it changed my life for the better, i think i have every tape you and george have ever recorded, and i still listen to them to this day, i am truly your biggest fan, and will always be, i sit on the edge of my seat the whole time you and george spoke, and i must say the words you spoke still to this day feel my heart with joy peace and hope of a brighter day, i remember george saying to me " you are going to be the one to set this thing on fire" and those words stuck with me for many yrs even to this day, i can remember it like it was yesterday, i saddened my heart to here he has passed and i cried like you would not believe, cause you and george were the only hope i had when i got in the business, and the only reason i stayed in, i just want to say i love you both and thanks for changing my life, and thanks for making it and giving alot of other people hope, we will see him again, and thats for sure, with much love and sorrow your friend from yrs ago loren stidham

Dear Ruth, thank you for sharing "Your Man" with the rest of the world. I remember reading the article in Ebony many years ago about your accomplishments as Amway Distributors. Thanks for your leadership. I really appreciate the love, laughter, conviction, and kindness expressed on the tapes received through the system. I'll never forget the admonishment to "UP YOUR PV". As I observed George through the years I realized he was a lover of life (which included fast cars - can't forget the funny stories about all the cars), family, friends, country, strangers (although George never seemed as though he'd met one) and his maker God Almighty: Not unlike past men of renown George was a man of most renown among men. I heard you and George speak on stage several times over the last decade, and have often listened to that wonderful, uplifting tape, "This Is Diamond." Your story inspired me to look forward, not backward, as things changed in our lives. Only once did I see you two up close - while sitting on a bench, just thinking, outside a convention hall. You and George strolled along hand in hand, talking about normal 'couple' things. It was so obvious that he loved you, that you loved each other. And it struck me that as blessed the pair of you were as speakers on stage, as much an inspiration as you two are to all who've met or heard you - George's talks (and demonstrations) of his love for Jesus and you were the most wonderful blessings he gave the world. Thank God for Amway that gave George, a quiet homebody, a worldwide stage to speak and preach Jesus' love to so many. I was in your organization a few years ago and remembered when my husband and I first laid eyes on your home. I was speechless. We certainly have so many many memories when we were priveleged to have you both speak to our Downeast organization. You were loved as a couple and I thank you for you leadership and example thru the years.
