George Herrera Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 7, 2023.
George Jimenez Herrera, 65, beloved husband, son, father, friend and Tata entered Heaven on January 2, 2023, in Scottsdale, AZ surrounded by his family.

Born and raised in Miami, AZ, he was the son of Ernesto (1931-1998) and Aurora Herrera (b. 1932). He graduated from Miami High School in 1975 and, as a young adult, worked in the mines and then at Bechtel Corporation as an electrician; even traveling as far as Bogota, Columbia to work and provide for his family. When called to try another profession, he moved his family to the Valley and courageously entered into a training program, as one of the few minorities at Sun Securities, Inc., and became a stockbroker. George went on to have a successful career for over 35 years in financial services and retired as a Vice President at Wedbush Securities in Scottsdale, AZ.

George will be remembered as a kind and generous man who gave from the heart, without judgement, expecting nothing in return. He was a supporting and welcoming man with a great sense of humor and was always making people laugh. He loved his family and, most of all, being a Tata. He referred to his grandchildren as "my babies" no matter how old they got. In 2017, George broke the Arizona state record in raw powerlifting in all 3 categories and holds the record to this day. A lover of all animals, it was not unusual for him to nurse a wild rabbit or bird back to health or bring home a turtle he found in the road. He loved his Dallas Cowboys and a great boxing match. Above all, he was a man of faith and we are comforted in knowing he is now in the arms of his Heavenly Father.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Herrera, mother, Aurora Herrera, children Jacqueline Herrera, Joseph (Monica) Herrera, Erika Ramirez, George (Angie) Herrera and Jonathan Herrera, step-children Morgann (Max) Mahoney, Jordan Rothchild and Ryan Morris, his "babies" Breea, Micaela, Gabriella, Delilah, Thomas, Alyson, Chloe, Daisy, Bella, Eva, Murphy, Marlow, Frannie and Korie, sisters Linda (Joe) Soto, Aurora (Dave) Ramirez and nephews Jake, Zach and Ben. George is predeceased by his father Ernesto Herrera and brother, Ernest Herrera. We will hold tight forever to his legacy: steadfast love, loyalty and laughter.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on January 14, 2023 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at the Historic AZ Train Depot, 230 S Broadway St., Globe AZ 85501

A private burial will take place at the Pinal Cemetery, Central Heights, AZ.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society or Arizona Humane Society.

We love you, Rudy. See you on the other side!

I will sure miss your smiling face in the office! You were easygoing, positive and happy all the time. I always enjoyed our banter.

To Susan and family, my words can do little, but I hope my thoughts and prayers for peace will support you during this difficult time.
