George Kouros

George Anthony Kouros of Wheaton, age 87. Born Feb 16, 1928. In Chicago Il. Beloved husband of 57 years to Vivien, nee Balabinis. Proud father of Anthony, Peter (Andrea) and Chris. Grandfather of George, Alexander, Anastasia, & Christina. Brother-in-Law to Katy Balabinis. George was the devoted son of the late Anthony & Voula, nee Zakos. Attended Bernhard Moos elementary school and Lane Tech High School in Chicago, class of 1945. He then attended University of Illinois, Champaign, and was elected President of the freshman class 1945/1946. Received B.S. Degree with honors in Civil Engineering, specializing in structures. Was hired as a structural designer by the Cook County Highway Dept. & pursued structural design with Consoer, Townsend & Assoc's. consulting engineers & The Austin Company, design builders. He opted to enter the business field at a young age & formed a partnership - Anko Construction Company in 1952 until 1959. Then created a sole owned company, Pelop Construction & pursued design, commercial building, real estate development and acquisition. His entrepreneurial spirit guided him to an assortment of ventures- office buildings, apartments, restaurants, apparel manufacturing to name a few. He retired early but occupied his time guiding other ventures to the end. George will be lying in state at St Basil Greek Orthodox Church, 733 S. Ashland Ave. Chicago, on Tuesday August 18th, 2015 from 10am until time of service 11am. Interment Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church.
