George Edward Liebrock

On September 7, 2022, George Liebrock, 82, passed away at his home in Erie, CO.

Born January 30, 1940 to Charles and Helen Liebrock, George grew up in Wheaton, Illinois. He lived most of his adult life in the Chicago suburb of Northbrook, moving to Erie, CO in 2021 to be nearer children and grandchildren.

Earning a degree in 1962 in history and political science from Northwestern University, where he was also a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and the NROTC, George served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant aboard the USS Freemont.

Upon completing his Naval service, George started his career at Chicago-based Inland Steel, and spent his working life in the steel and metal coating industries for the length of his career.

The consummate salesman, George had a joke ready for every occasion. Friends and colleagues looked forward to a laugh when they met George, who invariably began, "I've got a cute, funny story for you. "

Retiring from his full-time career in 2015, George ended his work life the way he began it: On the golf course. George caddied at Chicago Golf Club in his youth, and serving as a Marshall at Sportsman's Country Club, Northbrook during his retirement. George knew the Sportsman's course well, playing with a foursome of Northbrook buddies who golfed every Saturday there for more than twenty-five years.

While passionate about both his work and golf, George would say that his proudest accomplishment is his family.

George has an impressive legacy: He was loving father to Brian, Geoffrey, Doug, Kevin and Kelly Liebrock; and proud Grandpa to Ashley Valuikas; Michael, Sara, Brayden, Jackson, Josh, Annabelle, and Finn Liebrock; and Jude and Leo Bethke. He was also a Great-Grandpa to Hunter and Jagger Valuikas. In addition, he was the kind in-law to Shannon and Mary Ann Liebrock, and Alex Bethke. Moreover, he was his dog's best friend, providing daily walks and head scratches to his sweet pup, Millie.

George is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Mary, who he met while working at Inland Steel, and his brother, Bill.

Although he made many long-time friends in Northbrook, George also quickly bonded with Erie neighbors. Always ready with a joke or funny story, George loved bumping into neighbors on walks with Millie, and trading lawn care tips.
