Dear June, Robin and Jane,
Reading a death notice in the Ottawa Citizen is sad way to find out how an old friend is doing. George had a long and distinguished career and like his father, whom I remember well, lived to what used to be termed "a ripe, old age", although I could never think of George as being "old".
We first met circa 1961 at National Defence HQ, when he was Chief of Operations Research at DRB and I was working for "King James" Radford in the Directorate of Systems Analysis. Subsequently our paths crossed frequently, including at on gathering in the late 1960s when George introduced me to his friend, a Harvard professor named Henry Kissinger. In 1970-71 we were all Haut Fonctionnaires together at L'Universite Laval a Quebec, where I had the honour of auditing George's Seminar for Candidats au niveau de la Maitrise, Faculte de Science Politique. We last met at the CDA dinner several years ago which honoured George's lifetime accomplishments.
George will live long, not only in the memories of his family and many friends and colleagues, but also in the body of distinguished writings which are his legacy.
