MAGUIRE, George Albert
It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of George Albert Maguire, who completed his human journey on January 3, 2015 at the age of 92. George was born May 11, 1922 in Vancouver. His earliest years were spent on the family farm in Mount Lehman, BC with his Irish immigrant parents and five siblings. He began his formal career as a carpenter with Hodgson King & Marble in Vancouver where his father was the foreman. He later took over the operations of the company with his brothers Bill and Dave constructing many commercial buildings in BC that still stand today. In 1948 George married Leonora Annie Taylor and together they raised their three girls Noreen (Dave Grierson) Maguire, Judith (Rick) Reitenbach and Sharon (Barney) Reifel. George will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren Shannon (Dion) Hawke, Brynn (Taylor Miller) Harris, Blake (Yulee) Harris, Lynn Reitenbach, Laura Reitenbach, Taylor Reifel, Liam Reifel and his great-granddaughter Norah Hawke. George was proud of his 63 year membership at Marine Drive Golf Club and enjoyed the weekly comradery of his friends both on the course and at the card table. Upon his retirement, he and Leonora moved to Tsawwassen where they enjoyed the close proximity to their family cottage and community at Point Roberts. By all accounts he was a hardworking man with admirable intellect and a wonderful sense of humour. A special thank you to George's caregivers for their care and commitment that allowed him to remain at home for so long and to Dr. Gemeinhardt and the dedicated staff at KinVillage Care Home for their devotion and expertise. The family would also like to acknowledge all the wonderful people who shared dad's laughter throughout the years and made his life full right to the end. "It won't be long before it's cryin' time…"
