I have fond memories of Mr. McDermott. I worked at a doctors office and he would tell me about his baseball days at every visit. We talked a lot of Giants baseball. He mentioned he used to play when he was younger and how he and his son would attend baseball games. One day he said, "sometimes we can´t make the games, would you be interested in some last minute tickets if that was the case?". Of course I said yes. I got to enjoy at least 3 games with great lower seats because of him. Thankful for his generosity.

I worked at pic in pac in el cerrito I love George that man was one of a kind.
He dressed like he was going to the club every day. He had the mark 5 with the diamond in the window. And always had 100´s in his pocket such a character I was like 24 at the time and he actually rented his house out to behind the store. This guy was a legend

I had the honor of working for George at one his stores, he was a fine man, a fair employer like in the old days. I recall working along side him , he must have been in his 70's then, but he could lug those liquor cases like us guys in our 20's. I recall him telling me he knew Billy Marin, the manager of the A's, but I didn't quite believe him, but I didn't know he played for the Missions, geez, he must have known all those guys, including Joe Dimaggio. What I recall about him is how humble he was, he was fabulously wealthy and sucessfull, but somebody forgot to George, because he was so down to earth. I miss him.

I had the honor of working for Mr. McDermott at one of his stores in the 80's, he was a fine man, a very good employer, very fair to his workers. When I worked for him he must of been in his mid 70's, but I remember how big and powerful he was. He used to lug liquor cases along with us guys in our 20's, I mean he moved those cases around like he was a kid. I recall him telling me he knew Billy Martin, the Berkeley born manger of the "A"s. I didn't really believe him but in reading this obituary I learned George played with the Missions, so George probably - almost certainly knew - knew Joe Dimaggio too, in addition to Martin. George was fine man, it was special to work for him. He will be missed, big time.
