Mr. Mac: I never had the pleasure of meeting you in person. I did have the priviledge of speaking with you on the telephone. Because of you, I had the vision and courage to pursue a higher degree. Thank you for being you. God bless you and the rest of the family always.

To The McElroy Family,
I extend my deepest sympathy to you, for your loss.
I was a student of Mr. Mac at Texas Southern University from 1980-1984. He was a wonderful teacher and support system for me. One thing about Mr. Mac was that he never held back on words and always said exactly what he thought. I learned not only about writing, but about life. He will be truly missed, but his legacy will live forever.

Mr.McElroy was my Journalism Mentor at Texas Southern University's Upward Bound Project...always encouraging, always smiling...never judging. It was as if he could see through you. Even though more than 25-years of my life have been as a Journalist, Mr. McElroy always told me that he saw me really "acting." I did, with the Ensemble Theatre of Houston, and now in New York City, I mentor others, in journalism and...acting. Thank you Mr McElroy! Such an humble and great man whose legacy of "Empowerment" is one I keep in my soul, and continue to strive to pass on! Mr. George McElroy taught the lesson, that you never forget!

I was Mr. Mac's student at the University of Houston in either 1977 or 1978. He always said "get your hands dirty on the news," and I have tried to live by that ever since. I feel lucky to have known him and will continue to treasure my memories.

My condolences to his family.

Dear Family,

I had the pleasure of having Mr. Mac as my jounalism instructor at TSU in 1982. He had the ability to make his students feel so special and empowered! Sheri, I never had the pleasure of meeting you but I feel as if I know you because of how fondly your father spoke of you! He was such a character. I pray that the entire family realizes how blessed you are to be part of his special legacy. May God bless you and keep you. Even in your pain, remember that God doesn't make mistates. Mr. Mac is in a better place and has enriched the lives of so many aspiring journalists!

I was saddened to hear about the loss of Mr. Mac. I was a student of his at The University of Houston. He brought so much to the classroom ..... practical experience, knowledge of the people and issues of the time and a respect for the written word. Mr. Mac gave me a reference for my first job, and, over the years, we reconnected through work, the Press Club and other events. Please know that your dad and grandfather was respected and loved by many.

Dear Sherry and McElroy family,

We will really miss knowing that such a beautiful soul as "Mr. Mac" has left our earthly plane.

We will remember his life for the principles he left us as he mentored us at TSU, as well as the unusual truths that have guided us through some rough times.

HE GOT A CHANCE TO SEE SOME OF HIS STUDENTS. WE WERE HONORED TO BE IN HIS COMPANY. HE WILL BE MISSED. HE WAS TRULY A LEGEND TO ALL THAT KNEW HIM. WE WILL BE LIFTING THE FAMILY UP IN PRAYER. A GREAT MAN, GREAT JOURNALIST HAS GONE BUT WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN.

I am so very thankful to have experienced the greatness of "Mr.Mac", as he was affectionately known, by those of us who studied under him in the field he loved so much. He had a knack for pointing out those that had talent and brought out the best in them. I found a more heartfelt connection after finding that my parents were close friends with "Mr. Mac" and his wife Lucinda while attending Texas Southern University.
My deepest condolences to Sherridan and the McElroy family. (In representation of Henry F. Harvey, II, Jerline Harvey and The Harvey Family)

Dearest Big Daddy;

I love you so very much and this world is somehow dimmer, bereaved of your intellect and insight. You fought for many things that I took for granted all my life, for freedom of expression. You fought for our nation's defense in the Navy and Air Force, a legacy I feebly try to emulate by my own enlistment in the Navy and now the Army.

I wish you could have seen me in my Army uniform.

I miss you. It doesn't make sense to go home and not eat dinner at Mom's house with you anymore. To acknowledge your absence... is terribly hard for me.

I respect you and I honor your memory Big Daddy.

May God give you rest

For the McElroy Family: My deepest sympathy and condolences to you at this time. I had the privilege and honor to have studied under Mr. McElroy at Texas Southern University. He was a "craft and spiritual" mentor to me and so many other journalism students. He had a way with words and he was a true visionary. What a trailblazer! He had such a hearty laugh and always greeted members of our class with nicknames or provocative statements always followed by a thunderous laugh. I want to thank Mr. McElroy once again, for telling me that "I" am in control of my own destiny, the importances of "freedom", "freedom of speech",
"freedom of the press", "freedom of expresssion", and how important a smile and kind heart is. He was a great man, and he will forever be in our hearts, minds & thoughts.

Sincerely.
