George McLean Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 27, 2012.
After a long and courageous battle with cancer, George McLean, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Grace Hospice.

George will be sadly missed by his loving partner of 30 years, Gertie; his children, Nancy (Daryl), Jo-Anne, Sandra (Phil), Tracey (Robin) and Kenneth (Barb); step-children, Christine (JP), Johanne, Raymond (Sheila) and son-in-law Bruce; grandchildren, Derek, Sean, Kyle, Sydney, Brooke, Dylan, Natasha, Ainsley, Brittany and Kalem; his buddies, Dennis and Frosty; his brother Gord (Margaret); his beloved dog Gucci and many friends and relatives. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Gerry.

George began his career with the City of Winnipeg Fire Department in 1957 and he retired after 39 years of service in December 1995, as a Battalion Chief. He dedicated many hours of his time as a volunteer, especially the Salvation Army which was a cause very dear to him. He was also a proud champion curler, playing for the winning Fire Fighters Team. George had a love of horse racing and at one time owned Thorough Breed Horses. Many people knew George for his cooking skills which he gave generously as a volunteer cook for the Fire Department and at fishing derbies

George was a dedicated grandfather and a loving dad. He was a good friend and a loving companion.

In lieu of flowers donations in George's memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 500-55 Donald St., Wpg, R3C 1L8, CancerCare Manitoba 675 McDermot Ave. Rm ON 1160 Wpg, R3E 0V9 or the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Wpg, R3T 0R3.

Dear McLean Family,

I have been thinking and praying for you guys in this time of heartache and tears. I know Jo, Nancy and Tracey, but never knew their father. He must have been a fine man as I know he has wonderful and loving girls. I know the loss of a father runs deep for everyone in the fmaily, but also especially for daughters. Your father still lives in your hearts and nothing can ever remove that love sewn over the many years. God states in the Bible that love is the most important thing in this world and can rise above all the heartaches and disappointments. May you all feel God's love in your sorrow and pain.

Blessing

My dearest friends;
Every year when the green leaves turn to brown and fall, you will catch a glimpse of your dad. Even through tears of sadness come tears of joy. Memory is one gift of God that Death cannot destroy. May the memories you share of yesterday be with you always. My prayers are with you today and always. Much Love, Cheryl

I had the pleasure of knowing your Dad through my Dad(Gerry Baird).They both were Firefighters and worked at the same hall.My Dad and Mom thought the world of him.I remember your Dad's sense of humor and his laugh.
I also remember that they both loved the
betting on the horses at the track.But more importantly,he was a straight up solid guy.Your Dad will be missed by many who loved and respected him
I'm very sorry for your loss.

I've had the pleasure of meeting most of your kids and the joy of really getting to know a couple of them. They have a zest for life, a sense of adventure, a desire to do what's right, an unselfish drive to help those in need and a spunky sense of humor that is downright dangerous at times. They say things run in the family and I am sure that some of these things came from you. I know that they are proud of you and love you. I hope your family can be together at this time and feel comforted by the peace and love that seems to be so abundant in them. Take care you guys , I am very sorry for your loss.

To Nancy, Jo-Anne, Sandra, Tracy, Kenneth and all of George's family, please know my thoughts are with you. It is so very sad but you stood by your father's side as he made his journey and the love you showed him will have allowed your father to feel peace. Love to you all.
