I had the opportunity to work with George for several years before he retired from the State Corporation Commission. I was able to learn a lot from George and have quite a few memories from the time we worked together. He had a strong level of job knowledge and was able to effectively communicate with bank personnel. From what I remember, George liked to work on the computer, and was always ready to assist when a problem arose. I was sorry to here of his passing and offer sincere condolences to Juanita and his family. May God bless.

I was one of George's bank examination trainees back in the late 70's and early 80's. He was patient and had a great knowledge for the banking industry. He had a long and distinguished career with the State Corporation Commission. George, Jr and Angela were just starting school when we rode together. It was always a warm family atmosphere of good-byes and hellos that I witnessed when we traveled for the week. My sincere condolences.

George Minter and I worked together as bank examiners for quite a few years before his retirement. We often rode together back in the day when examiners had to car pool, so we got to know each other well. As a new examiner at the time, I learned a lot from George's wisdom and experience that I apply to this day. One of his insights was that one had to be inquisitive to be an effective regulator, so one should not be shy asking questions and seeking answers. George told me once that the bankers should be a little glad to see the examiners leave at the end of an examination, if you have done your job right. I have tried to pass on his ideas in younger examiners since. George also had the best knowledge of the Virginia banking code of anyone I ever worked with. He could cite State code section numbers and subsections by memory. So long George. Rest in peace.
