George Nigh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 31 to Aug. 1, 2025.
Politician George Nigh died July 30, 2025, at the age of 98.

He served several terms as Oklahoma's governor and lieutenant governor from the 1950s through the '80s. He was the first governor ever reelected in the state-and the first to win all 77 of Oklahoma's counties.

He is also being remembered for serving as president of the University of Central Oklahoma, and for his deep love for his home state.

Nigh was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the 1940s.

He was so excited about helping Oklahoma. He deserved to win all 77 counties and be reelected governor. He made Oklahoma the best state ever. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Adored both the former governor as well as his lovely wife. They both helped me in my small business efforts with Oklahoma Crude hot fudge sauce. He loved life. Will miss him. Oklahoma did well under his tenure
