George Aquilino Rivers

NEW IBERIA – A celebration of life visitation will be held for George Aquilino Rivers, age 61, from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Evangeline Funeral Home in New Iberia.

A rosary will be prayed at 4:00 pm by the Men's Rosary Group and be followed by a Eulogy from Mr. Rivers family and friends. Interment will be held privately at a later date.

A native of Killeen, TX and resident of New Iberia, LA, George passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Iberia Medical Center.

George was the most genuine and kind man you could ever have the joy of knowing. He was a truly selfless person who dedicated his time and efforts to helping better the lives of those less fortunate and down trodden. George was very active in the community and was a leader in the AA. He was often called "Jesus on Earth" for his helping nature and his tendency to walk around bare footed everywhere he went. George provided food for the hungry, clothing for the needy, and help for the sick. He enjoyed cooking a lot and was well known by all as an excellent baker, especially for his pineapple upside-down cake. George was a tradesman and worked in the construction industry for many years. He dealt with everything from infrastructure to carpentry. In his down time, George loved to fish. He would often catch and release unless someone need a nice meal. A loving son, brother, uncle, and friend to all, George will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his father, Albert Rivers, Sr.; step-mother, Janell Rivers; sister, Laura Roeben and husband Herman; step-sister, Mary Ester Selle; nieces and nephews, Jason Rivers, Michelle Roeben, Julie Roeben, and Natisha; step-niece, Crystal Rivers; great nieces and nephews, Taryn Roeben, Dean Roeben, Reese Roeben, Evelyn Lautzenheiser, Brandon Lautzenheiser, Tommie Mae Brown, Jorge Colon, Josh Colon, and Blake Batista; and great-great nieces and nephews, Tray-tray, Peanut, Panda, and Pecan.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Gulia Rivers; and brother, Albert Rivers, Jr.
