To the Smith Family;
On behave of the Edmonton FireFighters Memorial Society, please accept our deepest condolences on your loss.
I did not know George, but from the stories that I heard, he was one helluva a man! Vert liked and respected by the men on the Fire Department.
Please mark Tuesday, 2012 September 12th on your calendar, as that will the day of our Annual Remembrance Ceremony.
It is a time for all of us to remember those members that we have lost in the past year and we invite the families of those members to be part of that ceremony. If I could get one of you to get in contact with me with your information, then I will be in touch with you sometime in July to invite you to that ceremony.
You can reach me at 780-451-8343 or at [email protected]
Again, please accept out deepest condolences on your loss.

I worked with George for a long time,He was the happest & best guy I ever met.He told me of the time he was in charge of a tank moving forward in Italy.He was guiding from looking out the turret,the sun was hot & the motor caused him to fall asleep.He woke after some miles to give a starteled look to find he had missed a turn,then looking behind He saw 20 miles of tanks following him.It took a long while to straighten out this mess. He said he singlehandly caused another 6 months to the war.I will miss him always. From Jim & Marge Foster

Yes George Smith, the tank commander. He was as loud as his tank. A good officer, and a great guy.

I have so many happy memories of "Mr. Smith" either at the lake or on our street growing up.

Whispering George, ah, he will be sadly missed. I can still hear his distinct wake up call very early in the dorm at #2 fire station.
