The picture of George is so typical of him - always smiling, always gentle. Although he accomplished so much in his life, he remained "George" throughout his life. With much personal sadness, I offer my condolences to Mary and the children. You and George were sweethearts from my first memory of you at Central High. Mary, you and the children will miss him; his classmates at Central will miss him; I will miss him; the world will miss him.

I was sorry to hear of the death of such a gentle friendly man. In school he seemed to love everyone.

Sorry to hear about Georges'passing. we were good friends in Band and Flying. I flew with George several times..almost landed on a bridge in Chattanooga! He was very kind and generous. He let me use his plane to take lessons if I would furnish the fuel..Got my license! Mary, I appreciated you playing the accompaniment for my trombone solos. I'm sorry I moved from Knoxville after graduation. I've truly missed seeing my Central friends like George and David Piper. Time flies..Whee! God Bless. Dr. P.D. Evans

Until I read his obituary, I had no idea that George Stevens had been such a versatile high-achiever. That's because I lost touch with my CHS classmates almost as soon as I graduated from high school in 1952, and certainly after I went into the US Army in 1955 and moved away from Knoxville permanently in 1960.

But what a life, full of accomplishments, George lived. And skilled in so many diverse areas, too. CHS -- and especially the class of '52 --can count him as one of its most illustrious graduates. He did us all proud. May he rest in peace.

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them. --Rev 14:13
