George Parker Widman

Naturally the memory involves beer. Like the time three of us photographers went to Canada for a conference but did not leave until six allowed cases of some designer Canadian beer were legally transported across the border on the return trip.

Lifelong friend and mentor. Met in 1966 in Denver at USN intelligence school.Many adventures during our “employment”{?) with the Navy. Am blessed to have known and stayed in contact with him all these years.I’ll miss our great conversations together.

Our deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved George Living next door to him was truly a blessing may he rest in peace

George's party. Everyone wore a blue button down shirt, white pants and clean white sneakers. I cannot say enough about George's wit, humor and intelligence. Our work together at AP was exciting and George always had insight and solutions. I will miss him. Guy Solimano

Condolences to the Widman family. I would see George on assignment in the late 80s early 90s when I was at KYW-TV. Didn't know him well but we always greeted each other with a nice hello. I'm sorry for his loss.

If it hadn't been for George Widman, I never would have been a news photographer. He took me under his wing and taught me better than a college course could have, in my opinion. We went everywhere for four years and I learned so much from him. Sorry to hear you're gone, George. Would've been nice to share a few beers with you before you left. Lots of good memories. My favorite quote from him regarding printing photos for the paper was, "if you can't make it good, make it big."

In 1989 when I moved to Philadelphia for my first staff photography job with the AP, George snd Sally welcomed me with open arms and did everything they could to help with the transition to make me feel like a part of the team. They even gave me an ancient Maytag washing machine that had been in their basement for years. I used it from 1991 until it retired itself in Denver in 2001.
He was a true friend and teacher for all of my five years on staff at the AP.
We remained in touch ever since through Christmas cards and phone calls as my husband Mark and I moved all across the US.
I am so sorry for the loss of George. I will miss him greatly. My prayers of peace and comfort for the family are with all of you.

So very sorry to hear about the loss of George. He was a good customer and friend of my late husband Allen from Allen's Camera. He took pictures at Allen's Unveiling and sent them to me. One picture I have of Allen and me was taken in Italy and George lightened it up for me n made it look so much better. That's my favorite memory of Allen and now George. What a legacy George left behind and what a loss to the Camera Industry and world. Sending prayers and condolences to his family and friends at this time of sorrow. George and Sally were such wonderful neighbors as most of our neighbors are. Several years ago, during a storm, our power went out causing our sump pump to cease and our basement to flood. Without hesitation, George and neighbor Ed quickly jumped into action providing us with extremely long extension cords from George's generator to our sump pump, draining all the water from our basement, which could've turned disastrous for our home and health. Another time, George saw my husband, Jim, and me outside, and insisted on taking our picture in front of our blossoming cherry tree. The tree was gorgeous, but I never printed out the picture. After Jim died, George presented me with a beautifully framed picture of that one he took of us--a now cherished memento!
