Georgene Veihdeffer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 21 to Jul. 30, 2023.
Niagara Falls, NY - Georgene Weinel Veihdeffer, a resident of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on July 17th following a long battle with Alzheimers Disease. She was 78.

Georgene adored her little brother, Dennis, who was 12 years younger. She lavished loving attention on him, taking him everywhere with her as they were growing up in the tiny town of Eldred, PA. She taught him how to read before kindergarten, how to ride a bike and all sorts of board and card games. Likewise, she was as warmly devoted to her nieces (Laura and Jen) and nephews (Joel and Jadon) . She spent endless time with them, taking them wherever they wanted to go (mini golf, amusement parks, The Falls, etc.) and serving or buying them only their favorite foods and snacks.

Georgene's love for children was evident in the career she chose to pursue --Elementary Education. She graduated with a BA from Mansfield, PA State Teacher's College then received a full scholarship for a Masters Degree from SUNY Fredonia. She was a reading specialist in the elementary schools in the Niagara-Wheatfield School system for 40 years. She often would relay very cute and funny stories about her students. Following retirement she taught remedial reading part time at Niagara Community College.

Georgene loved golf and was good at it. She was also very devoted to her succession of "fur babies" (cats). In later years, she took care of her ailing mother, without complaint.

Georgene was born on Oct. 22,1944 in Bradford, PA during a time her father was overseas piloting B-17s during the war. She is predeceased by her parents, George (1975) Margaret (2003) and brother, Thomas Weinel (2015). She is survived by her husband John Veihdeffer, brother Dennis Weinel (Jean), sister-in-law Sharon Weinel, nieces: Laura Margulies (Ira), Jen Wilson (Terrence), nephews: Jadon Weinel (Danielle), Joel Weinel and nine great-nieces and nephews.

There will be no services. Burial will be arranged at a later date in Canandaigua, NY at a gravesite near her parents and brother, Tom.
