Georgia Ann Lindberg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 21, 2025.
Georgia Ann "Georgeann" Lindberg, 81, of Charlevoix, Mich., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, with her family by her side in Clearwater, Fla. She was born on Jan. 26, 1944, in Wyandotte, Mich., to the late George and Maryann Koniecy, and married the late Paul A. Lindberg in 1978 in Grosse Ile. Georgeann-fondly known as "Gigi"-graduated from Lincoln Park High School in 1962, was a drum majorette, and was crowned Miss Lincoln Park in 1961. She attended Wayne State University in Detroit and Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, where she developed a passion for interior design. She started her home-based design business in Grosse Ile and later worked at Lynch and Sullivan Furniture Gallery in Wyandotte and Puff's of Petoskey. In Charlevoix, she launched G. Lindberg Interiors in 1992, with projects spanning the Midwest down to southern Florida and The Keys. Georgeann's work received wide acclaim and was published in Blu, HomeLife, CS Interiors, Private Islands, Seaway Review, Great Laker, Hour Detroit, Midwest Living, and Log Home Living, as well as televised on "Homes Across America" and Discovery Channel's Destination America, "Epic: Private Islands."

In the late 1990s, Georgeann and Paul purchased and renovated the historic Round Island Lighthouse on the St. Mary's River and received accolades for its home design and interiors. A lasting legacy from the project included the invention of the Rock Jaw, a landscape tool for large rock removal. It is manufactured in Petoskey and sold worldwide. Georgeann also developed the care for liturgical space. As an advocate of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Charlevoix, she led several major projects for both the rectory and parish. In addition, she was a board member of the Joppa House Ministries and renovated the rehabilitation home for women. In 2019, she founded St. Joseph's Wells, a nonprofit that drills deep water wells in Tanzania, Africa, alongside her sister, Suzanne Bruning, and The Sisters of Our Lady of Kilimanjaro. The mission has since completed 17 water wells and now serves thousands of local villages and communities throughout Africa. Gigi's boundless energy for travel kept her busy. She explored the world with recent trips to Japan and South Korea and to Tanzania for St. Joseph's Wells scouting site visits. Gigi was fulfilled by the joy and love of family and friends, many of whom have spanned decades, from high school to loyal clients, evolving into lifelong friends.

Georgeann is survived by her three children: Brian (late Cheryl) Hoffman of Clearwater, Fla., Amy (Daniel) Allen of Chicago, Ill., and Elizabeth (Fr. Philip) Dinwiddie of Grosse Ile; four grandchildren: Duke Allen, Thomas Shumate, Anna Shumate and Brandon Dinwiddie; sister Suzanne (Mark) Bruning of Switzerland; brother-in-law Dr. Maynard (late Nancy) Stetten of Louisville, Ky.; and nephews Alaric Bruning and Matthew Stetten.

A memorial mass will be held Monday, Feb. 24, 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1955 S. Belcher Rd., Clearwater, Fla., by Rev. Monsignor Robert Morris. The funeral mass service will follow on Saturday, March 15, 11 a.m. at St. Mary Parish, 1003 Bride St., Charlevoix, Mich. Father Peter Wigton will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Wells: P.O. Box 457, Charlevoix, MI 49720, stjosephswells.org.

It was my pleasure to know Georgeann. She helped me design beautiful homes in Charlevoix on Michigan Ave., in Florida, and elsewhere. I was sad to hear of her recent passing. She brought beauty into my life as well as friendship and grace.
She originally knew me as June Mcintyre. Today my name is Maurah Kaunah. I now live in Ottawa Hills Oh. where 2 of my sons (Patrick and Michael McIntyre) and their wives live. My 3rd son TJ lives in Boulder Co with his wife and family.
May she rest in peace knowing her life was well lived and appreciated by many.

Oh, Georgeann had the most infectious laugh which I had the pleasure of enjoying so many times during our friendship. She will be missed.
