Georgia (Grim) Butterfield

Obituary, written by Georgia Butterfield

Georgia lost her battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) on April 22, 2025 at the age of 76.

Georgia was born January 24, 1949 in Spokane WA. At the age of 5 months, she was adopted by George and Doris Grim and raised on a 50-acre ranch in NE Thurston County. She loved animals and got her first horse at the age of 5 and for the next 14 years had a variety of rabbits, chickens, dogs, cats, horses, and cows. She was active in 4-H and did volunteer work for McCleary Wildlife and Rescue Center. She even learned how to hand feed baby bats!

Georgia graduated from North Thurston High School in 1967. Before the start of her senior year Georgia enrolled in summer school at The University of Dijon in France where she studied (what else?) French. While in France she spent some time in Paris and St. Tropaz. She also visited Switzerland and London. After graduation she attended Central WA State College and St Martins.

She then decided to work for the State of Washington. Her first job was at Labor and Industry where she met her future husband. She then went to DSHS where she was responsible for maintaining a child abuse registry. She ended up at WA State Liquor Control Board where she investigated liquor applications. During this time, she married Wm. Butterfield. They both enjoyed hiking, camping, storage auctions, and spending spare time at local casinos. Georgia won a cruise to Alaska from the Red Wind Casino and Bill won a new car from Lucky Eagle Casino.

They were married almost 40 years. Bill passed in 2014.

Georgia adopted a son (Cory Ellis). When Cory married his amazing fiancée Judy, Georgia became a mother in-law, a grandmother and a great grandmother. She loved it.

Georgia was predeceased by her father George Grim, her Stepfather Hollis Smith, her mother Doris Smith, her husband Wm. Butterfield, and brother Grant Grim. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Cory and Judy Ellis, 3 Grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 dogs Jackson and Yeti, 2 cats Kitty Face and Noggins, 2 grand-dogs Sophia and Brutus, and her dearest friend Susan DeGarmo and her sweet little dog Poppy Joy.

Per her request there will be no service.
