George Cortese

George Cortese, 83, of Eynon, died Thursday at home. He was the husband of Della Alco Cortese. They were married for 61 years.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Peter and Loretta Badalato Cortese, he was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, where he served as an usher, acolyte and a special minister of the Eucharist. He also served as an usher at St. Ann's Monastery. He was a retired employee of Chamberlain, Scranton. He also worked for Affliated Foods, Scranton; and at Burlington, Eynon. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He was a member of the Archbald Athletic Club and was a Fourth Degree member of St. Thomas Aquinas Assembly 2048, Knights of Columbus.

Also surviving are a brother, Joseph, New Jersey; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard; a sister, Theresa Helland; and a brother, Anthony.

The funeral will be Monday 9 a.m. from the Harrison Funeral Home, 374 Main St., Archbald, with Mass at 9:30 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Archbald, to be celebrated by his nephew, the Rev. James Alco. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Ginch Hill. Friends may call Sunday, 5 to 8 p.m.
