I too recall seeing Aunt Georgie for the first time. I know that first visit to Arkansas was quite an experience for her. She was a wonderful caring woman.

I was ten years old when I first met Aunt Georgie. We were living on main street in Oil Trough, Ar. We were playing in the front yard and I saw a woman in army dress walking down the street. She was coming to our house, so that our family could take her to Whichstein Lake, behind which lived Grandpa and Grandma Bruce, parents of Leycester, Ernest, Thelma, and Marguerite. I always wondered what she thought since they had no electricity or running water back then. Clifford Jones, our Dad, had a 50 lb block of ice in the back of our pickup, it was coverd with a blanket and we girls sat on it for the trip it was covered with a blanket and we children rode in the back of the truck with the ice block.

Marguerite's grand daughter here....
Nicki - thank you for calling and letting us know about Aunt Georgie's passing. We were all saddened to hear the news. I met her once in Arkansas in September, 1992.
Grandma has a funny story about the first time she met Georgie. She had come to Arkansas to meet the family, and they prepared a seat of honor for her on a big block of ice covered with a blanket. It was quite a ride back to the house. Georgie was a good sport about her "cool" welcome, but Grandma wondered if she would ever come back again. I guess she did. Grandma has always spoke very fondly of Georgie.

Jenny and Pat, grandchildren and great-grandchildren ---- We were sad to hear that Georgie had passed away, and our thoughts are with you during this time. Guess we have known the Bruce family for about 50 years, raising our families as neighbors. We enjoyed so much the visit of Georgie and Lee to our home in Fl. It was good to reminisce about old days, and we enjoyed our lunch together at the "Skunks Nest"in Wildwood. May God be with you.
Sincerely, Larry and Elsie Dunlap

Georgie was a wonderful friend to my Mom & Dad, Esther & Roy Vanden Plas. She and Lee contibuted greatly to many fun memories of the 'Red Owl Bunch' while I was growing up. Their friendship continued throughout the years with life's ups & downs, but Georgie always had a smile and a warm hello. We will miss her.
With symphathy & love in the loss of your mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother,
