Gerald Calcagno Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 31, 2025.
Gerald Arthur Calcagno, 82, passed away on September 16, 2024, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Born on September 26, 1942, in Newburgh, New York, Gerald was a man who embraced life with a zest that was contagious. Known for his unconditional love for family and friends, he was often described as the life of the party, living life by his own rules.

Gerald spent the prime years of his life in the heart of New York City's Greenwich Village, a place he adored and where his heart would always live even after retiring to Florida. During the 1960s through the 1990s, he was a familiar face in the community, known for his role as a manager and bartender at the Ninth Circle Steakhouse. His gregarious nature made him a local celebrity; he couldn't walk down the street or dine in a restaurant without being greeted warmly by friends and acquaintances. Gerald's storytelling from his days at the Ninth Circle, especially during Christmas, when he hosted gatherings with homemade lasagna and sausage and peppers, left a lasting impression on many.

An accomplished pianist, Gerald cherished the moments spent playing music for his friends and family, bringing joy and a sense of togetherness through his performances. And in the last few years, one of his greatest joys was watching his grandnephew, Vincenzo, also a musician, perform in live streamed concerts and sharing videos of Vincenzo with friends and family.

Gerald leaves behind Denise, who was not only a loving sister but his closest friend throughout his life, his sister and brother, Bonnie and Keith, his nephew, Brian, Brian's wife, Maija, and their son, Vincenzo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Gennaro Calcagno.

Gerald will be remembered not only for his vibrant spirit and open heart but also as a man who created a community of warmth and acceptance around him. His legacy of love, laughter, and music will continue to inspire those who knew him.
