Gerald Allen Cummings, 84, of
Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away on November 16, 2023. Born on November 11, 1939, in
Washington, Missouri, Jerry was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jerry was a man of many talents and interests. During his younger years, he was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. He had a natural aptitude for sports and was a tremendous athlete. Jerry was also a dedicated philanthropist and an active member of the Jaycee's in Southern Illinois.
At a young age, Jerry left home and found employment at St. Mary's Hospital in
Quincy, Illinois, working as a janitor. Through hard work, discipline, and unwavering commitment, he climbed the ranks in the medical industry. Over the course of 60 years, Jerry dedicated himself to Health Care Administration, leaving an indelible mark in the field. His work ethic and determination were unparalleled, and he never accepted "no" as an answer. Jerry's legacy serves as an inspiration to all who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Cummings, and his children: Jeffrey Cummings, Russell Cummings (wife Lisa), Michael Cummings (wife Hatter), stepson Trever Brown, stepdaughters Brittney Funk and Ginger Brown. He will also be remembered by his grandchildren: Shawn Menchowski, Brandi Cummings, Sarah Smith, Tavin Funk, Gianna Brown, Eli Cummings, Cash Brown, Asher Funk, Sophie Cummings, and Bryn Funk.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Herman Cummings, his mother, Mildred Bonnot, his sister, Jackie Orr, and his daughter, Cindy Menchowski. Although they are no longer with us, their memory lives on in our hearts.
Jerry's educational journey led him to Quincy University, where he furthered his knowledge and skills. His dedication to learning and personal growth was evident throughout his life.
In addition to his professional achievements, Jerry had a wide range of hobbies that brought him joy. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, solving crossword puzzles, and logic puzzles. These activities allowed him to relax and unwind, showcasing his sharp mind and problem-solving abilities.
At this time, no memorial services are planned. Jerry's family appreciates the outpouring of support and condolences received during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to PGAHOPE (Professional Golfers' Association Helping Our Patriots Everywhere), an organization that provides golf programs and support to veterans and military personnel.
Jerry Cummings leaves behind a legacy of hard work, determination, and unwavering commitment. May he rest in peace, reunited with his loved ones.
