It is with profound and heartbreaking sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Jerry, husband, best friend and life-long love to Ethel, beloved father to Susan (Don), Jerilynn (Mike) and Catherine (Mike) and most treasured "Poppa" to Maddie, Jenica, Eden, Gaby and Quinn. He was 82. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Jerry spent his formative years in Mayerthorpe, Alberta, surrounded by his six brothers and sisters and loving parents. They lived a simple life on the farm, and from this came Jerry's love of nature and gardening. At the age of 14, he began his career in the oil industry, starting as a roughneck and gradually expanded his knowledge and experience creating a very successful career in off shore drilling. He met and married Ethel and together they travelled the world, raising their three daughters as global citizens. In 1973, they returned to Calgary where they have made their home for the past 44 years. Jerry retired at age 55 and for 20+ years, he and Ethel embarked on many adventures in their motorhome, spending time "down South" with friends and family. They enjoyed winters away and summers at Ghost Lake. Dad loved to be near nature, breathing the fresh air and walking in the trees. He was a kind and patient man, who above all else, treasured his time with his family, especially his grandchildren whom he loved with no boundaries. His passing has left a gaping hole in our hearts and in our family, but we will treasure the many memories we have made with him and know they will give us solace and comfort in the coming days. Forever loved, always remembered. A Celebration of Jerry's Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. In order to respect his wishes, and make this a true celebration of Jerry's life, we ask that those attending the service to wear cheerful colours.
