Gerald Hamp
April 21, 1941 - April 6, 2022
Clovis, California - Gerald was born to Gerard and Bernice Hamp of Fowler, CA. At Fowler High, he excelled in Drama and Journalism and became a star athlete in Track and Field and Football. One of many highlights, he was the starting running back to future Oakland Raider QB Daryl Lamonica in the City/County All-Star game in his Senior year. It was there, at Fowler High, that he would meet the love of his life, Diane Craig, and the two of them would embark on an epic journey that would result in a love story for the ages. Gerald taught and coached for over 30 years, enriching the lives of many students. He loved his family and their pets. He was passionate about many things--sports, movies, the environment, politics--and, as his Coffee Buddies would attest to, was always up for an intelligent conversation. To anyone who knew "Jerry" they knew of his immense love for Thoroughbred Horse Racing. People would often consult him for his expertise in handicapping but, in the end, it was those amazing horses that he truly loved. Gerald is preceded in death by his parents Gerard and Bernice Hamp; his older sister Lee Hamp; and his youngest sister Susan Hamp. He will be dearly missed by his wife of nearly 63 years, Diane; his son Randy and wife Marta and their son Michael; son David; sister Linda Lee and husband Bob; along with many family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Valley Animal Center, Fresno Chaffee Zoo, or the charity of your choice.
