SPIERINGS, Gerald N. (Jerry), 74, lost his courageous battle to Cholangiocarcinoma, January 14, 2025. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. With a quiet, kind and generous nature, Jerry was a humble man of integrity whose acts of love and humor will live in our hearts. He will be dearly missed and always loved.

The youngest of four siblings, Jerry was born in Berea, Ohio to William and Maria (nee Rosloot) Spierings on November 8, 1950. He attended St. Mary school in Avon, Ohio and in 1968 graduated from Elyria Catholic HS, Elyria, Ohio. Jerry enlisted in the USMC in 1970, was deployed to Viet Nam, and honorably discharged. In 1973, Jerry and Kathleen Burnett were married and started their family. He proudly graduated from St. Petersburg College in 2003.

Jerry generally worked in the construction industry beginning on paving crews in Ohio, supervising various construction projects and as a Project Manager in Florida.

Jerry was a devoted, dedicated and cherished husband, father and family man. Left to mourn are his loving wife of 51 years, Kathleen; daughters Julie Spierings and Lisa Suarez; granddaughters Reina Suarez and Maya Williams; great grandson Andrew Hodge; son-in-law Mark Michael; a grandson-in-law Jesse Hodge; brother Anthony Spierings; sister Wilhelmina Kapron; and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John, and his son Andrew.

Jerry loved the outdoors; gardening, tending his trees and plants; he loved living near the Gulf of Mexico and for the last two years on Lake Clay in Lake Placid. Jerry also loved to travel. He was especially happy to have traveled to his parents' homeland, the Netherlands last year.

A service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, February 12th, 2:30 pm at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., St. Petersburg 33708. A Celebration of Life will follow at Springwood II Clubhouse, 10440 US Hwy. 19N, Pinellas Park 33782.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home and Crematory.

The family extends a special thank you to Good Shepherd Hospice (Violet Team) for their help, compassion, and thoughtfulness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to chaptershealth.org/give/donate.

NOTE: For our Friends and Family outside the Florida area. There will be a second Celebration in Ohio. Details to follow on FB.

Sending my deepest condolences to Kathleen and the family. We enjoyed many a meal and laughs with Jerry and Kathleen over the years. Even though we hadn't seen him in a few years, he is easily remembered as a kind soul. Hugs and strength to the Spierings family and friends who were fortunate to know him.

Over the 60 years that we have been friends, there are so many great memories that were made. Jerry is one of the best friends we ever had. What a great time we all had rolling on the River in Tampa with friends. Priceless. Will never forget this great guy and the smile he always flashed!! Rest in Peace Jerry

So sorry to hear of Jerry´s passing. I was a classmate at Elyria Catholic in 1968 with him. My locker was near his and what a joker he was. Always full of spit and vinegar. He was so full of life, always happy and full of devilment. He had me laughing with his antics. Everyone he met was drawn to him. Great guy and he will be missed by all.

Jerry was a great friend during our high school years, but I lost touch until our 50th Class Reunion. He was the same great guy. Sad to lose him, my condolences to his family.

Like my brother, Rich, I came to know Jerry while working at his family's greenhouse during the 60's. My oldest brother, Len, was a lifelong friend with Jerry's brother, John, and our families became very good friends. Jerry was a hard worker but also had that mischievous side about him. He loved to pull a good prank on someone and he loved his sports cars. So sorry to hear of his passing. May he rest in God's Peace.

So hard to say goodbye to my youngest brother. So many memories. My mother let his hair grow passed his shoulders because it was curly and blond. The only one with blond hair. Applesauce had to be at every meal. We always thought he was rhe favorite but he was loved by so many people. The things we did growing up in Avon probably should be not shared. It was a wonderful town to grow up in. Jerry will be missed by everyone he knew and also everyone him and Kathe knew in Florida.

Jerry and I were friends in our youth. My brother Joe and I worked side by side with Jerry in the Spierings Greenhouse in Sheffield, Ohio. We worked hard and had so much fun. Jerry always had a great attitude about life. He kept us laughing; I can't remember him being down or angry. We lost track of each other over the years, but I'll remember him always.
