Gerald KIDD Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 6, 2004.
KIDD _ Gerald Gordon Leaving us too soon Gerry died suddenly at home on March 2, 2004. Born October 21, 1931 in Toronto, his family moved to West Vancouver in 1943. He is survived by his loving wife Reta of 48 years; his son Michael (Dawn); and special granddaughter Jordan; also his much loved daughter Lisa; sister Shirley (Laurie) Cater; and cousin Lorna (Bill) Bonar and family. His journalistic talents blossomed at West Vancouver High School and continued during his years at UBC. He then became Editor of Western Fisheries Magazine, later taking over a failed yachting magazine and Pacific Yachting Magazine was born. He later started Canadian Yachting Magazine, eventually selling his entire publishing company to MacLean Hunter in 1978. In later years he was a free-lance contributor to Pacific Yachting, one of the high points covering the 2003 Americas Cup Racing in Auckland. He was always generous with his time, giving advice to those seeking help with their own publishing or writing endeavors or giving advice to new boating enthusiasts. He joined West Vancouver Yacht Club in 1954 and participated in every racing event from "frostbite" dinghy racing to Swiftsure and was one of the originators of the Southern Straits Race. His interest in racing was balanced by his love of cruising with his family in BC waters. A gathering of remembrance will be held on Monday, March 15 at West Vancouver Yacht Club, 5854 Marine Drive, West Vancouver from 1-3 pm. Donations to WVYC Corinthian Fund would be appreciated.
