Gerald B. (Jerry) Reisinger, age 70, passed away in Thousand Oaks, California on January 17, 2014 surrounded by family following a courageous four year battle with cancer.
Jerry was born to Donald and Marcella Reisinger on December 13, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio. Jerry attended Strongsville High School in Strongsville, Ohio, moving with his family to San Diego, California in his junior year, graduating from Crawford High School in San Diego in 1961. Jerry was a resident of the Conejo Valley for 39 years; living three years in Agoura and the remaining years in Thousand Oaks. From 1973 to his retirement in 2000, Jerry was a member of the California Highway Patrol, serving the majority of his years as a motorcycle officer with the West Valley Office (San Fernando Valley), with brief stints in both the Ventura and Moorpark offices. On many occasions Jerry worked "special details" providing motorcade security for Presidents Bush and Clinton and Vice President Quayle. Jerry also worked movie details. . . securing public streets and highways for movie shoots.
Prior to and during his service on the CHP, Jerry was an "extra" for the entertaiment industry. Ills most noteworthy job as an extra was appearing alongside Paul Newman and Robert Redford in The Sting. Jerry could also be seen providing "atmosphere" on such TV shows as The Rockford Files., Laverne & Shirley, Marcus Welby, MD and scores of others. His most recent extra spot was in 2012 showcasing his 1952 Pontiac woodie wagon in Hitchcock starring Anthony Hopkins.
Jerry loved dogs (particularly Airedale Terriers) and dogs loved him! His love for dogs was equaled by his love for cars (fast cars and vintage cars). In recent years, Jerry could be found volunteering at the Agoura Animal Shelter or showing his prized 1952 Pontiac woodie station wagon at local auto shows. Jerry had so many cars, family and friends have lost count. He had a great wit . . . Jerry was so funny. He would mimic noted comedians, not to mention a family member, or two! Jerry loved to tell a story and always made it very interesting.
He is survived by his son and grandson, Don and Christian Reisinger of Atlanta, Georgia; his girlfriend, Evelyn Packer of Thousand Oaks; his sisters Carol Eskra of Ocala, Flonda and Lesley Reisinger-Green (and spouse Mickey) of Castaic; his nephews, Garrett Green of Castaic; Ken Eskra (and spouse Veronica) of North Ridgeville, Ohio and; great-niece, Sarah Eskra and great-nephew, Thomas Eskra. Jerry had scores of friends, the breakfast group, lunch group, car clubs, retired law enforcement ... he will be missed terribly!!!
If you wish to remember Jerry, please make a donation to his favorite charity: Healthcare for Homeless Animals, c/o Malibu Pet Companions, P.O.
