Gerald Shipkowski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 30, 2025.
Gerald "Jerry" Raymond Shipkowski, 88 of Winfield Park, NJ passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025.

He was born April 2, 1937 in Nanticoke, PA to the late Theodore and Irene Shipkowski. Jerry attended St. John the Apostle and Roselle Catholic where he served as an Altar boy. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he began his career as a mechanical engineer. He worked many years for ITT, then moving on to Able Labs and Hyatt Hills Golf Course.

Jerry had a passionate love affair with ice cream, potato chips and black licorice. He enjoyed spending time with his grand kids and trying to keep up with all the new slang words and watching his favorite football team the Dallas Cowboys. You could always find him sitting outside on the porch, listening to country music, doing crossword puzzles, playing solitaire and watching old westerns.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Maria Guadalupe, two sons, Gerald Raymond Jr, Richard John and mother in law Angela DiOrio.

He is survived by his wife Constance (Connie) of 51 years, one son Jesus Antonio (Lisa) of Salmon, Idaho , daughters Donna Marie Vaeth (Michael) of Bayville, Joanna Burnside (Michael) of Old Bridge, daughter in law Lisa of Fowlerville, Michigan, and his sisters Denise Thorpe, and Phyllamay Paterno (Donald).

Proud grandfather of 9 grandchildren, John Shipkowski, Crystal Dunsmore, Brittany Shipkowski, Tiffany Mariah Vaeth, Mikayla Destiny Vaeth, Michael Raymond Vaeth, Christal Angelina Reyes, Mason James O'Connor and Emily O'Connor. 4 great-grandchildren Amelia Marie Brock, Vance Ezekiel Kline, Austin Richard Shipkowski and Luna Bella Carrea along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.

Dad, we will miss you immensely. You were our "go-to" when life got rough, you were our sanity in this crazy world and our comfort when we needed clarity. You were always someone we could count on, and although you were a straight shooter, you always got your point across without judgement and always provided sound advice. Thank you for everything. We will miss you more than words can say, but your love and guidance will stay with us always. You've left an indelible mark on our lives, Dad, and we will carry your spirit with us always.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Cremation services have been handled by Aloia Funeral & Cremation services, Garfield, NJ 07026.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Winfield Ambulance Squad can be made in Gerald's name.

I so very much enjoyed our visits, our political discussions, the "happy dance ", the laughs we shared and our friendship over the decades.
