I know it’s been a decade but I’m just seeing this obituary as I was thinking of my dear friend Benita only to discover that Gero has left us as well. I’m so so sorry. I was great friends with Benita and got to know Gero as well through the year. Maria I remember riding your horse with her. We all met in high school at Glebe. Then after university I left Ottawa. May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. I miss them both

Not a day goes by when I don't remember my true friend Gero and all of his caring, wise counsel. He was the best of us. It is that simple.

During dark days and deep loss, we know we'll one day look back and smile at Gero's wit and energy, his courage and compassion as gifts in our own lives.
Give Benita a hug for us, friend.

I'm going to miss seeing him on his scooter, stopping to chat and having some of the best conversations. Gero was brilliant - so sad to see him go. Love to you, Maria.

Dearest Gero, I knew you as a child and the last time I saw you was when you began university. My memories of you are on the farm as a child. Although much time has passed it feels like yesterday when I think about the time I spent in Ottawa babysitting you & Benita.
I send you love and light and am happy to know that you are at peace. To the family I send my love and heartfelt condolences.

I knew Gero from a group we were in. Gero was always so happy and joyous,he and benita would chase each other around like children so fun to watch. Very sad to hear that Gero left us.

Although I have not seen Gero for many years, I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing.
My favourite memory of Gero and I involves me riding with him on the back of his moped, gunning it as fast as we could....while being chased by an angry guy on a 10-speed bicycle. We narrowly escaped and busted a gut at our close call.
I remember you fondly, old friend.

I am so sorry for your loss.
I worked with Gero many years ago at the Wheat Berry. Gero was always in good spirits and helpful to everyone - he was easy to like and get along with. I never understood how he could come to work wearing shorts during the winter, and he would always smile at me when I teased him about it!
My deepest condolences to all who knew and loved Gero.

My deepest condolences on the loss of your wonderful brother and son, Gero. I met Gero in August 1991. I lost touch with him when I went to university, but sometimes I saw him on his roller-blades downtown, and he would always stop to say hi. I enjoyed talking to him, and seeing his warm and sunny smile.
Once, Gero took me to see your horses - I think there were at least 2 - and the two of us thought that bare-back riding would be fine. I was quickly thrown and watched as the horse's feet dance around my head. It was a bit scary, but we soon lost the danger of the moment. He later told me the horses hadn't been ridden for a while. I think I'd seen one too many cowboy movies.
So, now when I'm around horses, I remind my kids to be careful around their strong feet and legs.
Words can't really express how shocked and saddened I was to see the notice in the paper today. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
