May condolences to Gerry's family on the passing of a honorable man and coach. As Clarence the Guardian Angel wrote to George Bailey in "It's A Wonderful Life", "No Man Is A Failure, Who Has Friends". And Gerry Faust had many, many friends.

Hi Paul,

My condolences to you on the loss of your friend. He was a good man, and we would all do well to live by his example. He is home now.

Yes, I saw that John Robinson died as well. Amazing that they were the same age, died on the same day, coached the arch-rivals Notre Dame and USC, and coached against each other in that special game twice. Strange how life works out.

Gerry had an impact on my life for the reasons I laid out in my column, so I can only imagine the impact he had on yours. Prayers to you, his friends and family, and to Gerry. It was a life well lived. He will go down as the greatest coach in the history of Ohio high school football. And everyone should remember that Gerry recruited and molded much of the talent that won the 1988 national championship at Notre Dame.

As a graduate of the University of Akron, I am honored that Gerry represented our school, including long after his coaching days were over. If Gerry had gotten the resources and support he needed when he coached at Akron, there would be a statue of him outside the stadium by now.

Again, my condolences on your loss.

God Bless,

Tom

Sending blessings to his family. Coach Faust was one awesome human being. He was a friend of our family for many years. When my brother David was lying in a coma, he would visit and pray for him nearly every day. Though he passed on, my mother and I will always be grateful for his love and support. I know that my brother and father will definitely get him into many golf games in heaven. RIP, Coach.

I heard Gerry speak at Notre Dame U at a Medjugorje conference in the 90's. I was moved to tears by how he said he would go into his childrens rooms and prayed for them while they were sleeping. I wanted him to be my dad. A short while later at the 7:10am mass at St. Bernard's, he came in and sat next to me. At the exchange of peace, I told him I heard him speak and I wished he was my dad. He gave me a hug. I would see him at daily mass often and he would always say, 'hey kid', smile and pat my shoulder. I expressed to his daughter how much he meant to me a couple years ago. She took this photo. Gerry I love you! Rest in peace dear man. Julie and family, you are in my thoughts and prayers!

My condolence to your family. May you find comfort reflecting on Gerry´s life. Gerry lived a life that brought him much joy, that of coaching. He touched the lives of many young people. Our Heavenly Father also takes notice of the many ways we reach out and support others. May God comfort you during this time.

So sorry to hear of Coach Faust´s passing. Steve lived in Zahm Hall (right around the corner from my freshman ladies dorm Lewis hall). Steve and I became friends through mutual acquaintances. Steve was so proud to be Gerry´s son. What a wonderful family. I felt blessed to have known Steve personally and we both shared a passion and love for Our Lady.

"Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen"

Having lost both of my parents, Steve, I can empathize with your grief. Hold on to the great memories of your dad and what a wonderful human he was.

In Coach Faust´s memory and honor, Go Irish
