My parents and I lived directly across the street from the Snyder home on Ponsard. Gail was my childhood buddy. I remember Mr. Snyder insisting that we not sit directly on the cold cement stoop and often brought out cushions for us. I enjoyed many happy hours in their wonderful basement, playing DJ, hide and go seek etc. I will treasure those special memories. My sincere condolences to Gail, Gary, Glen, Arlene and Beverlee and their families.

I have known the Synder family forever, it seems - back in the days when people didn't lock their doors, the neighbourhood kids ran in and out of each other's homes, and each mother kept an eye out on the children playing in her yard. Beverlee and I went to school together at St. Malachy's and then St. Paul's Academy. When I was very disappointed that my father couldn't attend our grad dinner, Mr. Synder instinctively acted as if he were my dad, making me feel very proud - he was a wonderful man.
My heartfelt condolences go to the Synder family, but also thanks for an extraordinary father who touched so many Montrealers who will always have fond memories of him and his many accomplishments!

I was ten years old in 1948 when we moved to the Snowdon area from Esplanade Street. This was just about the time Gerry opened his Snowdon Bicycle Shop. My bike and I were frequent visitors to the shop -- flats, brakes, gears and the like. Gerry was always helpful.
And then I found Gerry pitching for the Steinberg's team in the Snowdon Fastball League. Can't tell you how many games I watched.
Years later, Gerry was instrumental in my getting my first break in journalism, shortly after I wrote a free-lance profile story about Gerry -- roundabout 1960 as memory serves me-- just after Gerry was appointed to the Executive Committee at Montreal City Hall.
Gerry opened many a door for me at City Hall when I was a young reporter digging for stories.
Thanks for the help Gerry. Thanks for the memories. And thanks for fixing those flat tires on my bike.
I shall honor your memory.

Dear Snyder Family,
While it is well known that your Dad had many outstanding accomplishments, I wish to add a more mundane and personal experience;
When "Gerry Snyder's" sporting goods store was located on Queen Mary Road, I was a "grade school" lad keenly interested in bettering my hockey skills on the Van Horne School teams.I used to regularly visit his store and always had personal help from your Dad in choosing the right equipment and getting some advice.
These are the important personal touches that he offered and I and my contemporaries will never forget. His interest, his kindness and love for the kids and the youth community are well known and much appreciated.
He took all the "guys" off their "seats" and put them on the hockey rinks and baseball fields!
PURE JOY!
May he rest in peace.

To the Snyder family,
Sincerest sympathies on your loss.In his own quiet, annonymous way he helped many. An athlete, a businessman, a leader and a gentle-
man. He will be missed.

Beyond the effervescent gentleman the public came to know and love so much for his undying love of Montreal, Gerry was privately one of the most kind and caring souls to grace the planet. My mother was a neighbor of Gerry's and after she had several strokes, Gerry called her every single day and visited her almost as often to make sure she knew someone cared. Thank you Gerry from my mother Maryrose Gallagher and me, Gregory Gallagher. We will both miss you enormously.
