Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 29 to Jul. 30, 2004.
RACINE - Gertrude R. (nee: Peil) Frank, 98, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Mount Carmel Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Burlington. Gertrude was born in Racine October 1, 1905, daughter of the late Henry J. and Augusta (nee: Becker) Peil. On October 27, 1926, at Holy Name Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Anthony Frank, who preceded her in death January 19, 1984. She was employed by Racine Dry Goods for many years and also worked at the Holy Name School Cafeteria until her retirement in 1970. Gertrude was a lifelong member of Holy Name Catholic Church, and had been a member at St. Richard Catholic Church, where she taught religious education, belonged to the Christian Mothers Society, and Holy Name Senior Club. She was also a member of the Catholic Women's Club, St. Mary's Auxiliary, and Humble Park Seniors. She knitted and crocheted all of her life. She will be sadly missed. Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn (Louis) Rannow of Racine; her sons, John (Bernadine) Frank of Waukesha, Anthony (Nancy) Frank of Sun City West, Ariz.; her grandchildren, Susan (Ronald) Haas of Menomonie, Patricia (Terry) Rigby, Margaret (Thomas) Nielsen, Judith (Paul) Erickson, Louis (Karen) Rannow Jr., all of Racine, Alison (Brett) Mogden of Sussex, Michael (Denise) Frank of Tempe, Ariz.; her great-grandchildren, Robert and Lisa Beth, Rebecca and Anthony Rannow, Daniel and Jessica Erickson, Melanie Rigby, Zachary Frank, Shanna Mogden; her great-great-grandchildren, Dylan, Morgan, and Sebastian Beth; sisters, Carol Caraher of Portland, Ore, Lillian Longo of Burlington; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Barry Frank; granddaughter, Amy Frank; sister, Theresa Weyrough; brothers, Gerhardt, Peter, and John Peil. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Richard Catholic Church, 1503 Grand Avenue, Friday, July 30, 2004, 3 p.m. with Rev. Al Lis officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Friday from 1:30 p.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to St. Richard Catholic Church, St. Catherine's High School, or to the charity of your choice have been suggested. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors and entire staff at Mount Carmel Medical and Rehabilitation Center for their loving and compassionate care. God saw she was getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around Gertie and whispered, "Come with me." With tearful eyes we watched her slowly fade away. Although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands put to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
