Gertrude Jackson of Greenville, Mississippi was born October 6, 1920 and died peacefully among family on January 28, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Jackson and Emmaline Knapper, and her 3 sisters whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Thelma Houston, Patricia Oxford and Belinda Jackson. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Gertrude grew up in Leland, Mississippi and moved to Long Beach, California in 1953, where she initially worked as a skilled silk finisher at a local dry cleaner. She later hired on with the Long Beach Unified School District where she worked until she retired in 1988. She became a member of St. Vestal CME in the 1960's where she served faithfully until her health failed.
The Family visitation will be held from 1pm to 6pm on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Colonial Mortuary, 638 Atlantic Ave, Long Beach. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at St. John Baptist Church, 741 E. 10th Street, Long Beach with Reverend Dr. Michael C.
