Gertrude provided some of our fondest memories within our Adult Day Program. She always spoke with a soft, kind sincere tone. If you were from Newbrunswick or lived on a farm, or loved cats, she was the first person to commend you and tell you that she too was a country girl, from down east at heart. She loved talking about her cats sammy-he was salmon coloured, then there was a black one named spooky. It was good to have cats on the farm you see they keep the mice away. Any story Gertrude told, always left you smiling. She had an infectious laugh, that made all those around her brighten up too. Her famous line at the end of the day was "i'll just leave this thing here" meaning her walker. "I don't think I need it, she would say" And with gentle prompting we would come to an agreement, that she would do us a favour and just take it with her "this time" to which she would smile and say okay. She was excited that her birthday fell on October 31st, saying "Can you believe it? I was born on Halloween!" How many people do you know that are born on Halloween? I would say just you. She had a wonderful sense of humour; "Mary did you remember to bring my purse..to which Mary would always reply "Yes, Mother". She was an example of how you don't give up; even if that was at times methodically and required a infinite number of rocking back and forth motions before standing up independently from a chair "Don't help me she'd say I don't want to hurt your back" She was Always concerned for others. She talked proudly of Mary her daughter, and her family near and far. She was so proud of her career being a Nurse in this area she'd say. "Bells Corners". We will forever remember Gertrude and are forever grateful that we had the chance to share apart of her life with her. Sincerest Condolences.

Very Sorry to hear of the loss of Aunt Gertrude. I have fond memories of her, as a young child, and how she made her trip to NB each year to spend time with the Maddox Family. A loss of a mother, a sister, an aunt or a friend, is never easy, but we live strong with the memories and that we have of Aunt Gertrude. Alan Maddox and the Maddox Family.
