It was a lamp at the farm. Somehow, my elbow connected to the lamp which helped it connect to the floor, and smash. Paul (and the other guys) found great pleasure in my embarrassment at turning the living room lamp into debris. However, there was one saintly person in the crowd. The lady of the farm just chuckled and said, "Oh, don't worry about that old thing."
Some good lunch and fellowship later, I was humbled by my clumsiness and the generosity of Gertie.

Paul and Family. It wasn't too long after my arrival in Edmonton (1973) that I met Gertie at a 'Y' function. She kept a strong interest in what you were doing along with 'are you getting along okay'. Then if you had a visit with her there was always the 'cookie plate'. Gertie was a gracious person and one who had a deep interest in the work that George was doing. Deepest sympathy to all the Family...Bill Rees.Staff and Members of the Edmonton YMCA. (sorry I can't be with you on Thursday evening).

Dear Paul and Marilyn,
Sorry to hear about the death of your mom. Birth is not a beginning; death is not an ending. ...until we meet again!
Life is not about how to survive the storm; but how to dance in the rain!
Marilyn and Paul, keep dancing! Your mom would approve!

Your mum and dad became my friends through YMCA Toronto in 1945. This friendship lasted an amazing 66 years. I will always remember them and their influence on my life, especially affecting my "Y" career and staying connected to their long time friends Don and Peggy McGregor. God bless.

Our Sincere Sympathy and offering prayers and thoughts to all the family.
We have many lasting memories of Gertie's smile, hospitality and fun loving spirit.
Those times were filled with "fun work", learnings from Gertie and enjoyment. Her ambitions taught us all -
-- forever remembered and dearly missed.
Sincere regards,
Debbi and Dennis Allen and families.

There were times when Gertie felt like my gramma, rest in peace, and say "hi" to grampa.
