Gilbert Culpepper Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 25, 2024.
Gilbert Orlando "Pep" Culpepper, age 65, of Gonzales, Louisiana, passed away on April 21, 2024, at his residence. He was born on August 14, 1958, in West Monroe, Louisiana, to the late Hezekiah and Hattie Ola Culpepper.

Gilbert was a beloved figure in his community, known for his kind and unwavering spirit. He dedicated many years of his life to serving as an Assistant Football Coach/Offensive Coordinator, Head Boys Basketball Coach, and Assistant Boys & Girls Track Coach at the Louisiana School for the Deaf. His former students fondly remember him as their favorite coach. Gilbert was also a proud alumnus of Grambling State University, where he played football under the legendary Coach Eddie Robinson. His passion for GSU earned him the nickname G-Man, a badge of honor he wore with pride.

In addition to his successful career in education and coaching, Gilbert served in the Air Force from 1982 to 1992, where he honed his leadership skills and dedication to service. After his military service, he continued to impact lives as an educator and coach at the Louisiana School for the Deaf for 20 years, followed by a role as a Security Supervisor at Impala for 11 years.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mrs. Charrisa B. Culpepper, his daughters Whitney Bradowell and Raven Culpepper, his son Tre'mon Williams, his grandson Braydon O. Williams, and his granddaughters Ayana, Amiyah, and Alani Bradowell. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gilbert enjoyed a variety of hobbies including all sports, reading, watching movies with his wife, and exploring history. He found solace and community at the True Light Worship Center.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the True Light Worship Center, officiated by Bishop Adrien Claiborne. The service will take place at 1012 W. Orice Roth Rd, Gonzales, Louisiana 70737, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The Lawson-Rollins Purple Shield in Gonzales, Louisiana, is assisting with the arrangements for Gilbert Orlando "Pep" Culpepper.

I worked with Gilbert "Pep" for several years at the Louisiana School for the Deaf. He LOVED his LSD kids and was a mentor to many of them (whether they participated in sports or not). He will be missed. I am praying for God's peace and comfort for his family at this time.
