Gilbert J. Dougherty Jr.

Gilbert J Dougherty Jr, “Gil,” passed away at the age of 70 on December 27, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones. Beloved husband and best friend of 31 years to Elaine (nee Matwiejczyk). Loving father to Jennifer (Jeremy) Dwyer, Gilbert III ( Kerilyne). Pop pop to Tyler, Madelyn and one on the way in the May. Brother to Patrick ( Sandy), Francis, JeanMarie (Joe) and the late James. Nephew, uncle and cousin to many.

Gil served in the US Navy, is a Vietnam Veteran, Northeast Catholic High School alumnus '68, member of Greater Wildwood Elks Lodge #1896, Cape May County Emerald Society, and Amvets Post 146. He is a retired Social Worker from Commonwealth of PA and proprietor of “Docs Deli” in Fishtown. He is originally from Philadelphia and has recently moved to Rio Grande,NJ.

If you knew Gil, he had a love for golf and singing. Please don’t hand him a microphone, you wouldn’t get it back!!! It wasn’t a party til Gil sang. He will be truly missed and loved by all.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday January 22nd 2021 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in St. Anne's Church, 2328 East Lehigh Ave. His Funeral Mass will begin 10:30 AM. His military honors and burial will take place on Saturday January 23rd at 12 noon in the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery located just off of the Garden State Parkway. (please join his family for either for Gil's church service and military burial) If you need additional information, please feel free to call the funeral home.
