Gilberta Dechow Obituary
Gilberta Louise Dechow, 84, of Traverse City passed away on March 31, 2025, at Cherry Hill Haven Assisted Living. Gilberta was born January 20, 1941, in Lansing, Michigan, the eldest daughter of Frederick and Rose Dechow. She attended Northport, Union Street, St Francis schools and graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1959.
Gilberta was inspired at an early age by her Aunt Dorothy's devotion to nursing and selected this as her career for 50 plus years in the Indianapolis, Indiana area. She was an LPN at Winona Hospital and several nursing homes.
After retiring Gilberta would visit her dad in Leelanau County at the family lake residence caring for him before his passing.
Gilberta was very passionate for "her" Colts football team and the Pacers basketball team. When she moved back home to Traverse City she included time for the Lions too.
Gilberta is survived by her siblings: Mary Ellen (Walt), Frederick (Karian), Edward (Anne) and Ann (Sandra). She was preceded in death by her parents Frederick L and Rose (Bunek) Dechow.
Graves site service at 10am, St Mary's Cemetery, Lake Leelanau, Michigan May 14, 2025.
