Gilles GRENIER Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Aug. 1 to Aug. 2, 2014.
Gilles Philippe Grenier
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Gilles on July 30, 2014, at the age of 62 years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Deborah; son, Grant and his wife, Amanda and their children, Jacob and Brooklyn Grenier; daughter, Kaylin and her husband, Ryan and their children, Emma and Oliver Loster. Gilles is survived by his brothers, Rey (Marie), Rej (Lil), Gerry (Darlene), Cy (Lynne), Claude (Trudy), George (Diane); sisters, Jenny Ruel, Sylvia (John) Chenier, Odile, Lorraine and Paula Grenier; stepmother, Marie-Claire Grenier; sister-in-law, Kathy Rhoden and brother-in- law, Blair McRae as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Gilles was predeceased by his parents, Evangeline and Florent Grenier; his brothers- in-law, Dean Rhoden, Edgar Ruel, and Chuck Moir and his sister-in-law, Diane Grenier. Gilles was born on October 18, 1951, in Prince Albert, SK and spent his first few years on the farm in Bellevue. His family moved west to Coquitlam, BC and then back to Duck Lake, SK. He spent many years working around the province and then for the City of Saskatoon for the past 26 years. Gilles married his soul mate, Deborah McRae, on April 12, 1980. They started their life together in Saskatoon and welcomed Grant and Kaylin into their lives in the next few years. Gilles found his true calling once he became a grandparent; he loved his grandchildren more than life itself. Gilles always lived life to the fullest. He was someone so many people loved. He always had a smile and a joke, and was always sure to hug family after a gathering. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6 at St. Philip Neri Parish (1902 Munroe Ave South). As Gilles was an ardent Montreal Canadians and Saskatchewan Roughrider fan, for those so wishing to do so please feel free to wear your sports gear. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may donate to an education account for Grayson Flaman and/or Sefryn Flaman. Donations may be sent care of Deborah Grenier, 2017 Louise Avenue, Saskatoon, SK, S7J 2C1. Arrangements in care of Lisa Ruf - MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (306-978-5200) www.mourningglory.ca

Ryan and I send our deepest sympathy to you Debbie and Grant and Kaylin and families. I am so glad that I had the chance to have a short visit with Gil last week while we were both dropping cans off at Sarcan. I was so sorry to hear of the sudden loss of Gilles. He was a happy, joyful jokester who I never saw without a smile on his face. I had chatted with him at work the week before and we were discussing retirement. Gilles enjoyed his job and wasn't ready to leave it behind just yet. My condolences go out to his family and friends. May all who knew and loved him find comfort in their many memories of their time spent with him! RIP Giles! You will be greatly missed.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Debbie and family. We always enjoyed our short visits in the mall whenever we met up. Gilles was truly a family man who loved his family unconditionally. The smile on his face when talking about his grandchildren showed just how special his grandchildren were to him. Keep special memories close to your heart.

Debbie and Family,
No words will ever be enough to describe the grief you are feeling and the emptiness in your hearts. Be strong. With the passage of time the grief will lessen and be replaced by the many happy memories of what Gilles life was. He will be dearly missed by his work family, he was a good friend to all of us. I will carry the memories of him in my heart forever.
