Deborah S. Hornaday Leroy Township Deborah S. Hornaday, 50, died at Lifespan Hospice Residence on Sunday, November 6, 2011. Deb was born December 22, 1960 in Battle Creek, MI to Dee C. and Marian Carpenter. She grew up in Athens Township, was a 1978 graduate of Galesburg-Augusta High School and a graduate of Argubright Business College. Deb was employed as an advertising sales representative for WBCK Radio Station and the Battle Creek Enquirer. Deborah Susan Carpenter was united in marriage to Daniel Charles Hornaday on June 25, 1994 in Athens. Surviving are her husband, Dan; daughter, Kelley (Stuart) Quirk of Mt. Pleasant, MI, a son, Douglass Crandall of Ypsilanti; stepdaughter, Melissa Hornaday of Detroit, stepson, Bret (Stacey) Hornaday of Longview, TX; two step-grandchildren, Hunter and Emily Hornaday; two sisters, Deanne (Mike) Hanson of Athens and Delores Matthews of Ormond Beach, FL and a brother, Vern Carpenter of Athens. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Carpenter. She was formerly married to Robertson M. Crandall. Deb was a member of North Athens Baptist Church. She earned a brown belt in Karate from Sanchin-Ryu Karate. Deb raced at Galesburg Raceway in high school and enjoyed fast cars, woodworking, classic rock music and loved her dog, Dojo. Her favorite place in the world was Topsail Island, NC. At the request of the family, friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at North Athens Baptist Church, 2020 M Drive South, Athens, MI 49011, where memorial services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011. Memorial contributions may be made to Child Fund International, P.O. Box 26507, Richmond, VA 23261. Arrangements are by Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. I am saddened by the news of Deb's passing. I was fortunate to work with Deb on two different occasions. We had lots of fun working together. Deb had a special love for her sister Deanne who was always there for her. Every conversation with Deb included her pride and love for her Kelley and Doug. I could go on and on. Deb leaves behind a loving family and a vast network of friends.
