Gina Mason Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 8, 2017.
Lewiston -Gina Marie Mason of Ridge Road in Lisbon Falls was welcomed into the presence of her Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. She was greeted in glory by her beloved father Chauncey R. Crafts. Born in Lewiston on December 30, 1959 the daughter of Chauncey and Carmella DeBurra Crafts. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1978 and earned an associates degree from Westbrook College in 1980. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Turner. She married Rick Mason of Lisbon Falls on August 25, 1979. They made their home on Ridge Road where she loved making her house everyone's home. They built their house themselves from trees that grew on their property. They enjoyed raising and talking about their children, teaching Sunday School, riding in their 1964 Chevrolet pick-up truck, and completing projects around the house. They did not enjoy spending time apart but preferred to live life together. Her most prized accomplishment was her children Garrett and Haley Mason. Not a day went by that she didn't call her kids and tell them she loved them. She was first and foremost a mother, not only to her kids but to countless others. Gina loved the town of Lisbon. Many times she said that she wished Lisbon had a Mayor because she would have loved to run for the office. She held many offices in Lisbon some elected and some voluntary. She served on the inaugural Lisbon Town Council, Lisbon School Board and Lisbon Revitalization Committee. She was awarded the Maine Downtown Network's Public Official of the Year in 2010 for her dedication to the town. The role she cherished most in her volunteer work was with the Moxie Festival Committee. She orchestrated the yearly Moxie Parade since 2010 and was involved in the parade in some form since its inception. In November 2016 she was elected to serve in the State Legislature representing the town that she loved. She was particularly proud to be serving with her son, Senate Majority Leader Garrett Mason. Gina and Garrett made history serving as a mother son team in the legislature for Lisbon. She never let a legislative day go by without first stopping by Garrett's office to give him a hug. She enjoyed serving on the Inland Fisheries & Wildlife committee. Her most treasured moment was visiting the bear den with Rick and Garrett. While everyone else was with the baby cubs Gina spent most of her time with the biologists and the mother bear. Recently she was fond of spending time with her daughter Haley in Florida. Within her last week here on earth, God blessed both Haley and Gina with one last trip to Florida where they spent 5 days together learning how to blow glass (something they have always wanted to do), enjoying sunsets on the beach, walking around a local market, cooking together, hugging often, laughing a ton and shopping. The most enjoyable part of the trip was the time they spent talking about the amazing things that Jesus has done for their family and continues to do. Gina passed away doing what she loved - laughing, talking and cooking dinner for her family. Dinner time was an important time of day for her. It was when she got to show her love to her family in her favorite way, through food. She enjoyed time gardening, entertaining, feeding the birds, mowing the lawn and spending time on the porch with her family. She is survived by her husband of 38 years and love of her life Rick Mason of Lisbon Falls, her son Garrett Mason of Lisbon Falls and his girlfriend Rebekah Lynch of Lewiston, her daughter Haley Mason of Gulf Breeze, FL, Her mother Carmella Crafts of Topsham, her sister Amy Hollander and her husband Gil of Jupiter, FL and their three sons Jordan, Everett and Alex, her best friend Roberta Staples of Lee, and her granddog Moon. She is also survived by many cousins and friends that she held dear to her heart. She was welcomed into Heaven by her Father Chauncey Crafts, her Grandparents Don and Leta Card Crafts and Anthony and Pauline DeAngelis DeBurra, and her dogs Muffer and Odie. The family would like to thank Pastor Steve Christner of Calvary Baptist Church in Turner, Pastor Jon Jones of Lisbon Falls Baptist Church in Lisbon Falls, and the Pastors and Congregation at Pathway Vineyard Church in Lewiston. As I write this, you are celebrating Gina's life. Even though I can't be at the service, my heart celebrates that Garrett and Haley have such a full treasure trove of love-memories with their mom. Every time I saw Gina with them, she was laughing with them or engaging with them and their friends. I could tell that she was just plain loving on them, and I rejoice that I am witness to it. Garrett and Haley, I'm so thankful that the picture of your mom that I have emblazoned on my mind is the image of you three laughing together. You have my love and my prayers.

She was the picture of civility and good humor in and out of the State House. I enjoyed sharing memories of Grazianos with her and am truly sorry I did not get to spend more time with her during her brief service in the Legislature.

My deepest sympathy to all who knew Gina. Her energy, passion, devotion and love will be deeply missed. She always gave 100% with any commitment she made. I've known Gina since she was in 4th grade and have many fond memories of majorette competitions, fund raisers, parades and we were even on a TV show once. She will be missed and always be on our hearts.

What a beautiful and well-written commemoration of Mrs. Mason! It's very obvious that the Lord was the center of her life! Our hearts go out to her dear family and friends. This certainly was a very unexpected exit from her earthly life to ALL....but not God, who was looking forward to her presence in Heaven! It won't be long and we'll all be together in His presence, rejoicing!!!

Gina continues to be a pillar in the lives of Calvary Christian Academy students, staff, and alumni. Her love of the kids and dedication to her community both in Lisbon and Turner speak volumes of the size of her heart. God send us someone with big feet to step into her shoes. Our hearts, prayers, and hands are extended to Rick, Garrett, and Haley. Let us be a blessing to you like your family has been to us.

There is so much about Gina we miss and will miss, in shock and aching, but not as much as her family. Her example of loving, nurturing, supporting, and serving her family and all around her was truly inspiring. Her great and rich faith was uplifting. Gina totally adored, respected, and valued Rick, Garrett, and Haley. Going to miss most her great smile every time we saw each other and her heartwarming laugh. Our Lord Jesus and God are rejoicing to have Gina closer just as she rejoices to be closer to them ... eternally. Love you Gina. Thanks for everything !

Gina, somewhere in Heaven you will soon be reading this remembrance.

It is difficult for most of we mortals to speak of you without the use of the word I because of the impact that you had on usand me. And please pardon me, but to remember you, that word must be used.

We first met in 1996 when I decided to run State Representative for the Town of Lisbon. Your son, Garrett, daughter Haley, and several of their friends became part of my rookie campaign team, as did others as the campaign progressed. You were the encouraging mother of these then Kids as was your extended family and your many friends ,as well as yourself. We lost but you were always there, motivating and doing behind the scenes as you always did right up to your final days.

In 2002, when the same State House seat became open, you encouraged me to try again and you were thereagain! This time we won, the first Republican elected from Lisbon since 1954. I was most proud of this accomplishment because of the work, effort, and trust that you had in me.

Your family, your extended family, friends, colleagues grew to trust , love, admire, and respect youto the extent that none ever wanted to betray the same trust that you returned to us.

You continued to be involved with all endeavors that you encountered and continued to grow exponentially.as a mother, wife, friend, business person, and- in the finest sense of the term-a local and State POLITICIAN.

I am proud to have known you as a person as well as the many other titles-mother, friend, and hundreds more- that you unselfishly earned in your remarkable life.

To Richard, Garrett, Haley, and your extended family , I truly extend my sympathies for this untimely loss but also congratulate and honor you, Gina, for a life well lived.

God loves you and so do I.your friend, Bob
