Gladys King Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 10, 2024.
Stoystown - Gladys Marie King, 85, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, at Canterbury Place hospice in Pittsburgh, PA.

Gladys was born on February 12, 1939, in Charleroi, PA to the late Bernard and Gladys (Sleith) Werner. Survived by husband Harry; son Scott (Joan), grandson Nathaniel, all of Katy, TX; daughter Nancy (David Madson) of Friendship, ME; and her brother Quentin Werner (Jacqueline) of Monongahela, PA.

Honey - as she was called growing up - graduated from Elizabeth Forward High School in 1957. After high school graduation, she worked at Payday and G.C. Murphy as a bookkeeper. She and Harry - who were high school sweethearts - married on November 18, 1961.

As a married couple, Gladys and Harry first settled in Glassport and then Moon Township, PA. In 1973, they started the next chapter of their lives together, moving to Buckstown, PA where she spent the rest of her life. Gladys was a long-time member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church where she was an active volunteer, helping in the kitchen for many events. Gladys was constantly crocheting, knitting and quilting - never without knitting needles or crochet hooks. In the summers she kept busy gardening, picking enough blueberries to bake pies all year round and shipping them to her children in Texas and New England! She enjoyed the time she spent with Farm Women, Red Hats, Knotty Quilters, Shady Ladies and her knitting group.

Gladys was first and foremost a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A service is planned at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Hooversville, PA on Saturday, December 14 - visitation at 10am, followed by a service and reception at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Thomas Lutheran Church.
