Miss Witt helped me get through Chemisty as a student teacher in Forreston. Although I never really understood, she was so very helpful and easy to connect with. Always a smile! We also shared a lot of laughs on the bleachers keeping stats for basketball games.

Misty was a true angel, a blessing to the homeless men and women at Carpenter’s Place. We deeply appreciated her extraordinary kindness and generosity given with such humility. The world’s loss is heaven’s gain.

Misty was a courageous person. She made you feel like family even if you were meeting her for the first. Misty was loving, caring and would give you the shirt off her own back if someone needed the help. You leave a big hole in alot of people 's life. I am saddened to hear of the passing of Misty. I had the please of sitting next to her at the scorers table during basketball games at Highland Community College for many many years. She was always helpful and pleasant to be around, plus we had many laughs and stories we could tell about our experiences at the scorers table. I remember her always bringing along papers to correct before a game and at halftime from her teaching job. They don't make people like Misty anymore and she will be missed by many. My condolences to her family.

I had the pleasure of working with Misty at Pecatonica schools. Misty was always kind and very dedicated to her students, going above and beyond to help them be successful. She had my son in class, and she always pushed him to do his very best. So sorry to hear of her passing--my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Ms Witt was my physical science teacher many years ago. This women appeared to be mean and her class seemed to be impossible hard. She made everyone work for their grade, for once it didn’t matter what your name was, you had to work for your grade. It wasn’t long I realized hey she is not so bad, just do your damn work. She was unlike any other teacher I have ever met. Ms Witt and I became close and like many others know she would help you with any class not just hers.. she was a genius in my eyes. It’s no secret I got pregnant in high school with Miss Emily and many talked about me and perhaps looked down on me. Not her she became my mom at school, pushing me to do better and not give up. Oh yeah and always having healthy snacks in her room and making sure I had eaten. Some may have thought I was a favorite but this lady would have done this for anyone. Her teachings and friendship definitely got me through high school.
After high school though I didn’t see her on a daily basis we kept in contact. She sent birthday and Christmas cards every year to Emily and I. When I was in Freeport we often would pick up supper and surprise visit and talk for hours. Oh and occasionally I would come home to apple cake hanging from my door with a simple note, I know how much you like apple cake so I baked you some I had some apple that needed to be used up. So as time went by I got married had more kids and the rest of the clan was fortunate to meet and learn from her also. Now instead of just Em and I , there was Blake, Alex, Payton also, we would play games and do puzzles and read books. The kids loved her. One night she had a game on table that I called pick up sticks I know there is another name for it but I can’t remember what it is called. She played that with Alex and Payton for atleast an hour and then sent it home with us. Good times and memories at Ms Witt’s house.
I don’t remember exactly remember when she told me about her illness or whatever you want to call it but I was devastated. I didn’t quit understand it but she wasn’t gonna let her get her down she was gonna live her best life. Maybe it wasn’t what she had in mind but let me tell you she was the kindest most selfless person I have ever met and I will truly miss her. There is so much more I could say but I am gonna leave at this.. Rest In Peace my dear friend until we meet again..

While science was far from my favorite subject, Miss Witt was my favorite teacher. The time she took to make me feel special and supported will not be forgotten. My sympathies.

Miss Witt was unlike any other teacher I've had. She made a personal connection with students and definitely went above and beyond the call of duty for what I would consider a "good" teacher. Definitely had an impact on my learning and on me as a person.

Miss Witt was one of the best teachers I ever had the pleasure of learning from. She did everything she could to make sure I was headed down the right path and pushing me to be the best i could be. Without her I wouldn't be the man i am today. You will be missed dearly by me and all of your former students. You were one of the great.

Misty and I shared a classroom my very first year of teaching. She was always so kind to me and often left me new fun post-its (my favorite!) just because. She was generous in many ways - including with her time. She’d spend hours every week providing tutoring to students - whether they were her students or friends of her students - in all subjects, not just the one she taught. Sending my condolences to her loved ones. You are missed, Misty!
