GLEN MACON Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 7 to Apr. 9, 2017.
MACON, Glen Musician, Husband, Father, Friend When Glen Macon got a call from his sister Janet the morning after Thanksgiving in 1987 to come down from Massachusetts to Delaware to take Noni McGeorge to the Bachelors' Ball, his only question was, "what's the dress code?" That night Glen met Noni at Janet's house dressed in a dinner jacket. He introduced himself, offered her his arm, and the two danced the night away. By Christmas they were engaged and on New Year's day morning they were married by a frozen lake in Maine. Glen was a musician, computer chip designer, grill master, devoted Sox fan, and beloved friend to everyone he met. Glen passed away peacefully this past Wednesday the 5th of April at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury, MA from complications due to ALS. He is survived by his wife, Noni Macon of North Andover, MA; his two sons, James Macon of Somerville, MA, and Fenn Macon of North Andover, MA; his two sisters, Janet Colella of Unionville, PA, and Pamela Earnest of Keller, TX; and his mother, Carol Macon of Keller, TX. Glen was 59 years old. Glen was born in Detroit, Michigan and spent his time singing, playing guitar, acting in plays, and learning electrical engineering. As a freshman in high-school, he was accepted into the Madrigal Choir, an elite chorus usually filled with upperclassmen. Later, Glen joined the Air Force where he helped design electrical components and microchips for national defense systems. He built a career as an engineer that would take him on to companies that included Raytheon, Commodore, Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, and Intrinsix. While living in North Andover, Glen was a regular in Pentucket Players plays in the early 2000s before bringing down the house as The Frog in South Church's production of "Honk!". Glen played rhythm guitar for local bands including The Pentecostal Pickers and The Jazz Disciples. He loved golf, bridge, the Red Sox, and Branch Lake in Maine where he and Noni were married that New Year's Day in 1988. Donations in Glen's memory can be made to ALS One at http://www.alsone.org/donate/ or to Compassionate Care ALS, 752 W Falmouth Highway, Falmouth MA 02540. A memorial service will be held on May 6, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at South Church, 41 Central Street, Andover, MA 01810.

Our deepest sympathies to Glen's family for your loss. We were members of the same support group as Glen and Noni, and were always impressed by his upbeat attitude and positive outlook. He was certainly admired by everyone in the group, and will be sorely missed.

My sincerest condolences to Glen's family and friends. I am a one time visitor to the group last Christmas after my Mom's passing and was filled with gratitude for the help I received from everyone there that day last December. My heart is truly with you and your loss and I pray for your comfort in knowing you did a great job for your treasured loved one.

Dear family of Glen,

My Dad and I only met Glen and his wife at the ALS support group a few times but just wanted to express our condolences at the loss of a truly Joy - filled man who was obviously happy to share that joy everyday of his life! His smile and spirit will live on in the memories of everyone who crossed his path and I am thankful to have met him. Thank you for wanting to share your insights and advice at the meetings. Blessings to your family.

Glen was our favorite performer and bridge player, always winning with good humor, a smile and a wink. All will be missed.
