Glenda Elbe

Glenda Eileen Elbe, 77, Wausau, died Thursday, November 7, 2013 at her home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Glenda was born June 6, 1936 in Cheltenham, England to the late James and Margorie (Merett) Gardner. She married George Elbe in April 25, 1964 in England. The couple lived many places over the years while George served in the Air Force before settling in Wausau in 1976. Glenda worked as a seamstress for Prange's and Younkers for many years and developed quite a reputation for her excellent work. In 2005-06, she became a citizen of the U.S. so she could let her voice be heard and vote.

Glenda was the consummate matriarch of her family; making each and every member of the family feel loved and special to her. Her enduring love was evident in many ways, from holiday meals to the natural glow about her that brightened peoples' day. Her grandchildren, Matthew and Brianna, meant the world to her. Glenda loved to laugh and listen to opera and she was extremely proud of her English heritage. Glenda took her Christian duty to heart, giving to many charities and being a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Glenda is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, George; children, Dean (Connie) Elbe of Antigo and Sarah (Donald) Holcomb of North Pole, Alaska; grandchildren, Matthew and Brianna; siblings, Paul Gardner and Myra Hamlet of England and Vanda (Randy) Treu of Wausau; nephews, David (Heather) and James; dear friends, Ursula Volm and Marge Huehnerfuss of Wausau and Kathy Horan of Virginia; and extended family and friends.

Services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 11th at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. Revered Zach Holdorf will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, November 10th at Helke Funeral Home and continue from 10:00 AM until the time of services on Monday at the church. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. You may sign our family guestbook at www.helke.com.
